Last night my 20-month-old daughter discovered her shadow while eating and is terrified of it. So much so, that she was so upset she wouldn't continue to sit and eat her dinner. I was hoping that it was just a one time thing, but this morning the same thing happened at breakfast. I tried distracting her, talking to her about shadows and playing with our shadows on the wall later on and talking about how nice they are, but she's still afraid. The lighting was better for lunch and snacks so she didn't see them, but at dinner the same thing happened. I tried moving her chair around, but there really is no good spot at night where she wasn't going to get a shadow. Just now on her changing table, she also saw her shadow and started freaking out. I'm at a loss as I don't know how to handle this. She is understanding a lot more, but I think the concept of shadows is still way too abstract for her to get at this age. Any suggestions?
