Target Registry/Returns Question

Do any of you ladies know how returns work at Target for items on your registry? And items not on your registry with NO gift receipt or receipt? TIA!

Re: Target Registry/Returns Question

  • I got the diaper bag I registered for and someone else got me a random diaper bag.  I guessed it was from Target and brought it back. The lady was talking about all of these steps I needed to do to return it.  I was confused.. then she just said or we can take your ID and credit you the amount.  I got the $40 in a store credit.

  • Super easy, but I've never had an issue with returning an item to target, with or without a receipt, ever.

If the person didn't include a gift receipt and it's not on the registry, just add it. Either print out your registry before you go or once you get there, and they just scan the registry and scan the item.

  • They'll probably give you store credit.

  • As long as Target sells the item they will give you store credit without a receipt.

  • Just tried to return some baby clothes... and I guess this person bought it awhile ago because it wasn't in their system...

  • Thanks! We live about 40 min away from a Target so I would hate to drive all the way there with all the stuff I have just to be told nothing could be done. I'll print out my registry when I get there and hopefully they'll return the items not on my registry too!
  • I got two of the same outfits from my work shower. I took one back without the receipt and they said that because I had no receipt they could only give me store credit for the lowest sale price it's ever been.

I actually had a pretty hard time doing it. With no receipt, they do store credit, which is normal, but they set a random $70 limit, and we were returning almost $300 of stuff, so it did not work out. Printing the registry did nothing. Maybe this was just my Target, though, and it's not a universal policy. I really don't know.
Buy Buy Baby/Bed Bath & Beyond is much more helpful with returns.
  • yeah they told me you could return up to $70 or $75 I forget.  But luckily I just had a $40 item.

  • Lowest sale price thing happened to me too. I returned a gym (we got 2 because Target's registry is oh so functional) that was $60 and they would only give me $25 for it.
  • I went to return some diapers without a receipt and they told me that I only get $75 worth of returns per year without receipts.  It kinda irked me, especially since they were diapers and have the registry.  Oh well.

With receipts, I have had no problems.

  • I was told by Target return team, you can print "purchase log" from the registry machine. Bring that to service counter to return without receipt and it won't use up $70.00 per year limit. If you can add the item to your registry, I think it will help too. I have returned stuff not even in my registry using purchase log, they never asked for ID which is used to track $70.00 per year limit. However, I think they probably only give the lowest price it has ever been.

the manager at babiesrus told me the other day to bag up doubles of whatever i get--no matter which store it came from, and they will return it there. so if worst comes to worst.. try babies r us!

Yep.  I hate returning at Target.  After receiving baby gifts that were doubles or that I disliked, Target stopped taking my returns if without a receipt- registry or not.  They shut me down every year, so I just donate stuff we receive from them without a receipt.

  • This may sound/ be very wrong. Target sucks at returns and registries period, unless you have a gift receipt. I found that some items on our registry were also sold at Walmart or Babies r Us, who gladly excepted the returns for store credit. Mainly diapers, wipes or bottles. Because none of the stuff showed as being purchased on our registry, even though everyone we talked to said they gave target the registry info etc. after almost being in tears I walked over to BRU and had the stuff with me, and the woman was like, here and returned them, that's when I realized you could kinda cheat the system. She told me that all you need to say is I'm not sure if these are from here, but we're registered here and received them at our shower, and they'll give you store credit or tell you their not from there..I'm grateful, I no longer have 3 of the same brand of wipes we didn't register for, or 6-3 packs of bottles.
  • Maybe it depends on the Target, but I personally had a great experience returning things there, with no receipts. They did have me print my registry purchase log & had to scan it.....At first, I was concerned b/c even though a friend got me a diaper pail from the registry it hadn't shown up as being purchased on the log....they did not care. It was so easy.
