Wipe Warmer??

I got a wipe warmer as a gift and I went to look up some reviews on the brand I received (prince lionheart) and discovered some scary information!
I read more than a few people's little girls ended up with a yeast infection from using it.
They said that they couldn't guarantee at it was from the wipe warmer...but considering the wipes sit in a warm environment for a period of time...kinda makes sense?
We are expecting a little girl and I'm wondering if I could just return the warmer and stick to the cold wipes..
What are you guys past experiences or opinions on this??
Thanks in advance
:)

  • We used a wipe warmer but we used it with cloth wipes. We would only put a days worth or so in there at a time and clean it out a lot. We never had any trouble. They are definitely very very optional.

  • We got a wipe warmer as a gift, too, and I plan on returning it just because it's not necessary (and we could use the money and get diapers and other necessities). That is pretty scary though.

  • Thanks for all the feedback so far!
Its just confirming everything that I had been thinking.
Plus some people say it leaks water at times and the LAST thing
I want to happen is the wood from my changing table
    to get warped!
and SUCH a good point about using warm wipes at home and
then shocking her with cold ones when im out
    and about!!
  • I've never heard about any dangers in using one, but they're pointless anyway. The bottom 20 always got brown and crusty

  • I never used a wipe warmer with DS and I don't plan to this time.  I think they are kind of silly.

  • DD is 21 months and has never had a yeast infection or UTI. We have used the princelionheart warmer with cloth wipes since birth. I do clean it once a week however. Wipes are never sitting in there long enough for me to worry about.
  • Personally we're using the wipe warmer because we're cloth diapering.  I have my own wipes and the wipe warmer keeps them moist.  I could understand them being totally useless if you are planning on using store bought wipes.
  • If you decide to go with a warmer, you can place a vinyl place mat underneath it to make sure it doesn't warp your furniture.
  • I register for one but not for the warming action. I'm such an organization freak that I wanted a container that would weigh down the wipes so I could pull out a wipe with one hand without having to shake the plastic bag to get the wipe out. Just another idea if you don't want to deal with returning it.
  • I didn't register for one (thought it was pointless), but got it at my shower anyway and we absolutely love it! It will now be used for baby number 3 and has held up great. Keep in mind, we do cloth diaper and use cloth wipes, so that might be a difference for some. I always pour some water in, place the wipes in, then pour more water on top. I just squeeze the wipe when I take it out and use it. It became, very unexpectedly, one of my favorite baby items. :)
  • This makes me so happy Babi is a boy!!!! :)) :)) :)) I don't think we'll use a wipe warmer anyways though because we didn't get one for the shower and I thought we'll just use the towel warmer or the sauna to make Babi's bottom feel nice and toasty when the time comes but I don't know????? I think it will be ok!!!
You're freindly and nice and popular a14 AE :)) :))
  • Uh, boys get yeast, too.

It wasn't worth the money for us. Yeast infections weren't an issue, but DD didn't care whether the wipes were warm or not and the warmer ended up drying out the wipes before we used them up. Since I already own it I may stick a few in the warmer and see if baby boy has a preference, but it's just not an important purchase.

ETA: Actually, I often used cloth wipes or cotton balls with warm water, especially when DD had diaper rash.

  • I think the warmers are useless and they dry out wipes quicker.
  • Never had one and never thought we needed it. I say return it.
  • Return it. Biggest waste of space.
  • My DH insisted that we get a wipe warmer for our DD because of cool wipes in the middle of the night.  It was just too much for him to bear the thought of a cold wipe on her little bottom. LOL.  So, we got one and it's been totally fine.  No yeast infections, no mold, no bad smells.  We use Honest Company wipes that are unscented and no chemical (I believe), so not sure if that makes any difference.  I would try it out and see how it goes, especially if you live in a colder climate.

  • I used for both kids. However I didn't use wipes for 6 weeks because of chemicals in them. I used washcloths in the warmer. No issues and both girls. Will do same for ds

  • I would of never bought one on my own but was given one as a gift for DD and loved it! Never had any problems with it or with my daughter having a yeast infection. She really seemed to like the warm wipes better. My mom got us a new one and I am pretty excited about it for baby boy!
