i want to cut it!!!

My hair is long! I love it & its beautiful. Dh also loves it but its driving me nuts!! I have 2 kids 3 yrs & 9 months! Dd is always pulling on it & trying to chew on it. I just dont make time to fix it either.
My problem is I dont know what to do with it anymore. I get frustrated bc its always in a braid or messy bun. Its really thick too.
My current cut is long with long layers.
I just can't get the nerves to chop it off.
Anyone chopped their hair off?

  • My hair sounds a lot like yours- I don't have the courage to cut it.  I just wouldn't look good in a short cut, so I deal.  My boys are 3- so they aren't chewing on it- but they do like to "comb" it and try to style it- so it always ends up in knots.

I have very long hair too & it was a pain when DD was little.  She has a thing for hair & would pull little strands out & play with them.  I too thought about cutting to all off but  just resigned myself to the fact that messy bun was going to be my "everyday" hair style for a while.  4 years down the road I'm glad I didn't cut it.  I do wear it up more when I'm around the house because it gets in the way.  The way I see it is how long would it take you to grow it back?  If it's more that a few years & you LOVE your hair just deal with it.  I'm also a long hair girl.  The shortest I've ever had it was a little above my shoulders for a very short time then let it grow out again so take my advice with that in mind.

  • Mine is also long with long layers, and I have no plans to cut it short anytime soon. Not only because DH likes it long, but I find it's so easy to just run a brush through it in the morning and be done. Also in the summer I can just put it in a ponytail. Short short haircuts are too much of a "mom" haircut for me - I want to stay a MILF as long as I can. :D

  • yes!! I had long hair and got sick of it one day and chopped off 7 inches. Best. Decision. Ever. So much easier to care for.

I cut it so it was sitting on my shoulders. Textureized at the ends (so not all one length).

I can wear it down or throw it up in a cute pony.

If you don't want to cut it off just yet can you have it thinned out? My BF does this frequently, the hairdresser goes at it with these scissor things and just whacks away randomly but it thins it out a whole lot.

Yea I always have it thinned but its been since november.

  • I like to keep my hair about shoulder-length....I've gone as short as chin-length, and have gotten compliments on it, but I just prefer it a tad longer....and w/ layers! It is really easy at shoulder length, and it sure feels "short" after letting it grow out for awhile!

  • Don't cut it!
I may be bisased, though, very few women wear their hair short in Peru.

  • I can't cut mine. I did when I was pregnant and I was miserable until it grew back. I can barely get a trim. I just don't feel like myself when it's short. I feel older.. I hated it. I vote no.

  • Dooooo it!  I've cut it all off 3 times, like, chopped 12 inches off each time, and know what?  Hair grows!!!  I've liked it each time but got tired of it after a while.  I have super thick, curly hair so for a while it's nice to just blow dry quickly and BAM it's done, but then it gets to a mid-length awkwardness that is always a PITA for me :)

If you can cut off....I think 10 inches?  You can donate it to locks of love.  Some places will send it in for you but you can mail it in yourself too!
  • I posted in the other thread, but I cut mine all off yesterday and even though the cut itself is starting to look a little crazy (I had no idea how wavy my hair really was, go figure) I couldn't be happier to have it gone.  My husband isn't happy about the idea, but he won't be divorcing me over it.  If he does, the joke's on him for having to pay me alimony and child support over a haircut.  Ha.

14 inches, gone.  See attached photos.
