Also - food. If you have someone that can do food runs in the middle of the night, great, but if not - food. My mom picked a few things up a couple of times while we were there when she dropped by, but I had no idea how absolutely starving I was going to be! Hospital food sucks, and they don't give you nearly enough!
Yes! Don't forget the baby book! Also, I second ponytail holders, comfy yoga pants, a tank and soft cardigan. Toothbrush, makeup of you roll like that and most importantly, yummy treats, I had chocolate covered raisins and trail mix.
Good point! Definitely snacks, learned the hard way the first time around!
Pillow Shampoo Body lotion Toothbrush & toothpaste Snacks
That's about all I took minus the snacks. Lesson learned. I used the hospital's blankets, robe, slippers, underwear, pads, diapers, wipes, etc. Why get my stuff all gross if I don't have to...?
I lived in a cheapie robe I got fro CVS I think. It wasn't bulky and I didn't care what happened to it. It had easy access for nursing and skin to skin. Lip balm. My own pillow.
Nursing pillow, toothbrush, iPad. I barely needed anything else. Even the cheater Velcro swaddle blankets weren't as useful this time around because DD was so much tinier than DS. If your hospital does photos and you care about that, then something for you and baby to wear and a little makeup.
The only thing I'll add to these is my own towel, which I was very grateful to have. It was an older towel and dark (so I wasn't worried about all the blood stains :-P) but it was much better than the awful hospital ones!
Magazines, books
Tablet
Gum or hard candy
No slip socks
Hand fan (if you think it would come in handy (I wish I had taken one)
Toiletries
Comfy pants
Snacks
I was told the hospital I delivered at wouldn't give Tums while in labor, and I had heartburn like crazy, so I made sure to pack some. I don't go anywhere without Chapstick, and I definitely used it. There wasn't much we needed for DD; just her car seat and coming home outfit. Make sure you bring your cell and camera chargers and snacks for your husband.
Shower stuff. Showering later that day was heaven! Bathrobe for walking the halls/covering up. (I was so irritated with the hospital gowns, trying to nurse in them and then being spit up on, that I just stayed naked the whole time I was there. I wore the mesh panties and used the robe or blankets to cover up when anyone was there.) going home clothes for you and baby. Fuzzy socks! I dislike slippers so I had to have my fuzzy socks (I'm obsessed with them actually.) Defiantly snacks for your DH/support people. I think that's it. GL!
I didn't like the gown and wanted to change as soon as I could. My top 3 would be a comfy outfit, including a nursing bra/tank, Chap stick, toiletries.

If you take your own clothes bring extra bottoms. I peed myself more than once with DS2. I even had to change my going home outfit because I sat down for a second before we left and peed.

Personally, I wouldn't do bottoms (just a nightgown). Nurses and doctors come by and check you regularly and you'd constantly be taking your pants down.

What nightgown did you use? I couldn't find one that I could nurse in, but not feel like I was flashing my dad when he came to see his grandchild.

I just bought a cheap one from Target (but I didn't BF). Maybe take a hoodie/sweater to throw on top...?
You: 1) Your own Pillow(s)! - I swear they had like 13 of the crap-things on the bed each time I went to L&D for complications then L&D - when I brought my own, I needed two... 2) Your own shower/toiletries (shampoo, body wash, pouf, toothpaste/brush, etc.)... 3) Your own meds if you take daily meds and DO NOT give them to the nurse to put in their area.. It was frustrating beyond belief for me because I've got some time-specific meds and not once did they get them close (I'm fine with close, I know nurses are busy - but take issue with bringing me a med at 9PM that I was suppose to get at 7AM that morning an hour before I could eat!).. Little one: 1) Newborn size clothes. I gave birth to linebackers and the newborn sizes still fit properly... 2) Footprint pages from the baby book.. 3) Snacks for Mommy so she regains her energy quickly after meeting LO!!!
Because I knew what all my hospital was going to provide from when I had Emily, I didn't have to take toiletries, pillows, pads/underwear, swaddling blankets, slippers, robe, toothbrush/hairbrush, etc. - all that was provided for me and I wanted to keep my bag LIGHT!
Also, I'm going to assume you will have your phone to take photos, make calls, and document your labor journey.
Top 3 for me: 1. Nursing tank/bra - it's those super soft ones that you put on like a sportsbra and just pull to the side to nurse. I wore them around the clock, super comfortable! I wore the disposable underwear with the nursing tank the whole time (easy to be checked!) except when I got up to go to go home. I was in bed trying to sleep as much as possible those 24 hours - no need for clothes.
2. Boppy - I was sore and exhausted and loved having baby up high so I didn't have to use much of my own strength to hold him up to nurse. It also worked to snuggle/prop Nolan up on the bed when I needed my hands to pull my hair up or take a call without having to put him back in the bassinet.
3. Maternity going home clothes that are loose-fitting and comfortable and able to take into account any swelling. I had an epidural and was so puffy, my shoes barely fit and they were flip flops! I wore yoga pants, maternity tank, and hoodie home.
Top 3 for Nolan: 1. (2) T-shirts with foldover mitts for his sharp little finger nails are my top #1 baby product ever! Nurses are constantly changing his diaper and checking him so there was no need for anything but a shirt and a diaper. He stayed swaddled in hospital blankets the entire time, too except when it was time to go home. Carter's is the only place I've ever found them.
2. A zip-up footed long-sleeve sleeper with fold-over mitts to go home in. Carter's is the only place I've found them. Plus a stroller blanket should weather call for it. It poured down rain the day we took Nolan home, in JUNE! Thankfully, David checked the weather forecast and brought umbrellas and a thick blanket to drape over the car seat while we loaded into the car.
3. Car seat. Everyone knows this one but you'd be surprised how many people I've known who forgot! Nolan wasn't tiny, 8lbs, but even he needed the infant insert that came with our Chicco Keyfit.
My top three for me for DD2:
Chapstick
Pillow (used to sleep and for nursing)
Something comfy to lounge in after my shower( button down flannel pjs and nursing tank)
Also nice were toothbrush!!, slippers, flip flops, and yoga pants to go home in.
For DD2:
A different hat (the hospital ones never stay on, and I let DD1 pick it out when she came to meet her)
Baby book
Going home outfit
Re: What should I take to the hospital?
Pillow from home
Deodorant
My own shampoo/body wash.
Swaddle blankets because I don't like the hospital ones.
Shampoo
Body lotion
Toothbrush & toothpaste
Snacks

You are so close....how exciting!!
Seriously it's awesome at 3 am. Other than that toothbrush and pillow.
I had to have my own pillow from home, as well as a nightgown, robe, and toiletries...snacks, and devices with chargers.
Also, take a big empty shopping bag for hospital freebies. Some nurses will load you up with extra diapers, pads, and formula (if you use it).
