Swimsuit season

So, last summer I (we) were all pregnant and postpartum. The summer before that I was perfectly confident in a bikini. Between nursing and my twin skin (think flabby, saggy, covered in stretch marks belly- google image twin skin if you want to be horrified) I am not at all sure what kind of swimsuit I want. Anyone have any recs? I am 28 years old and on the shorter side, like 120 lbs. I don't want to look like I'm 50 but the belly needs some major coverage. Thanks in advance!

  • There are actually cute one-pieces on Victoria's Secret website, or if you want something a little sportier I like the stuff in the Athleta catalog, too... I feel more comfortable in a one-piece now, too! I'm glad they're kind of back "in style"

  • Tankinis for sure, Zappos.com always has tons to choose from. Target had some cute ones this year too. I also like the one pieces from modcloth.com.
  • I'm dreading going swimsuit shopping. I have horrible stretch marks from DD and I know it's going to be hard finding one that is flattering and covers them.

Tankinis are all I have ever worn, and they are actually easier to find now more than ever. Sportier ones I like zero exposure at kohls, and penny's usually has a lot of prettier ones.
If you are worried about looking old, I would lean toward sportier styles and solid colors, and away from florals.

  • I got this one from modcloth. I figured the 40s style would look best on me and they have several cute one piece options. I love it. The ruching hides my belly and it's full coverage in the back and it's comfortable.
That is so cute! I have a modcloth one in a similar cut and love it, I feel like a pinup girl!
  • Also, if you are willing to spend more money, Spanx has some awesome one pieces and tankinis that are extremely flattering.

I love my modcloth bathing suit as well.

  • VS has some pretty cute tankinis & one pieces.

  • If you're willing to spend more money, I've found the more expensive suits seem to cover better, last longer, and just be better suits. I HATE getting in a swimsuit. I'm sure a lot of it is in my head. I found my best suit at Dillard's and it was pretty pricey (for me) at $100, but they have a large selection.

    I have a tankini with a 40's style skirt. It's super cute.

Right now I am rocking my maternity tankini top with a slighty skirted bottom (just a normal one from target).

I agree with lands end! I have a tankini and a retro style one piece from them that I love!

I love the spanx one pieces. I wore them even pre-baby. They are super cute AND suck everything in! Here's a pic of me in one, because I am feeling brave:

I was just about to ask if Spanx made bathing suits! I'm really excited about this. My body is all kinds of weird after baby and my first thought when I saw this thread was "I'm only wearing a swim suit if I can wear Spanx under it!"

  • I got one from athleta.com. It is part of the gap / old navy company. They have some tops that come in bra sizes, not just s/m/lg. They are expensive, but I found a nice tankini and bottom on clearance for really cheap. They have good return and size exchange policies too.

  • The summers after my other kids were born I looked best in a swim skirt and bikini top. The skirt went up higher than normal bikini bottoms to cover most of my stretch marks, and hid some hip and butt issues. The bikini top kept the focus on my boobs, and made it easier to nurse in it.

  • I need a new bathing suit. Last summer I just used being post partum as an excuse to not swim. This year I have to wear a bathing suit. My boobs are still huge from nursing and even though I lost all my weight, my stomach is flabby. I am going to check out the spanx bathing suits!

  • No matter what style of suit I'm looking for I rarley shop for one anywhere besides VS. I love them and the quality is good and they last a long while.
  • Thanks ladies! I don't know if I want a one piece or a tanking, but I'll check out some of your suggestions and see what I like. I really want to be able to spend a lot of time at the pool with the boys so I really don't want to feel self conscious!

  • I have found some cute ones on Zulily lately. Contemplating buying one from there.

Ive purchased tankinis from target before. (I have terrible stretch marks from ds1 and LO) IMO they are cute and "young" looking.
I have one similar to this in navy/white stripe:

I bought this exact one and I think it's pretty cute! It's flattering yet still covers my three kid pp belly!

  • This is the Modcloth suit that everyone keeps referencing: https://www.modcloth.com/shop/onepiece-swimwear/bathing-beauty-one-piece-in-black

It's pretty much the end-all one-piece bathing suit and flatters every single person that puts it on (check out the review pictures!!).  It's definitely expensive (around $75) but I bought one about 2 months ago and don't regret it one bit.  It comes in several different prints and I don't think you can go wrong!

  • My problem area is my ass, so I'm going to treat myself to a nice short style swimsuit from Athleta this year, price be damned.
  • Also a tankini fan.
