OTC Cold Sore Meds?

So, this weekend I developed a cold sore. I get them randomly and I HATE THEM. Normally the slightest tingle puts me on Code Red and running for my Acyclovir Rx, but I'm pretty sure that's a no-go during pregnancy. I cannot stand to just let this nasty little thing take its course - does anyone know if the OTC stuff like Abreva and Campho-Phenique is okay during pregnancy?

    I use valacyclovir and my OB and midwife both said it's totally safe during pregnancy. I used it for a cold sore during first tri. Call your doc, but your prescription is probably fine to take.

    Grab an ice cube and ice that sucker into oblivion.  If it's still tingly and hasn't taken hold yet, the ice will do wonders. I try for 5-10 minutes several times during the day. It's always helped me.

    Tea tree oil fixes my cold sores amazingly well. Better than anything I've tried! Just a drop or two on the cold sore itself with a qtip.

    2016: Baby girl stillborn at 21w6d 4/29 and baby boy stillborn at 20w 3d 11/16

    You can take Acyclovir/Valcyclovir while pregnant.
