Any recommendations to improve supply in the dud?

Sometimes I get a decent amount pumping from the dud, but other times, next to nothing. Can't help but wonder if my girls are getting enough from that side... I know babies>pump! but still looking for suggestions.

  • You can try offering the dud side first, then the good side after. You can also pump the dud side for a few minutes after a feeding. I've been able to even out my stud/dud, really by accident. My stud side has a big nipple and with his crappy latch it really hurt to try nursing on that side so I always offered the dud side when we practiced nursing. Even with his crappy milk transfer and poor latch, doing that for a few weeks evened out the two sides.

  • I have twins, so one gets one side, one gets the other, each feed... I pumped today after I felt like they didn't nurse well. Got an ounce on the left and 6 ml on the right.

  • i would recommend mother's milk tea.
i just started drinking it this week and i also have a superboob and a dud, the superboob is maintaining it's status and the dud has been producing more and becoming engorged where it never used to.
i'm sure pumping the dud a lot will also be helpful but i never had the patience for that and i only have one baby so i'm not sure you'll want to go that route when you've got two to handle!

    goodluck!
  • Thanks! I drink MM tea 2-4x/day and I pump 2x/day when I'm with the girls and every 2.5-3 hrs in days when I'm at work.

  • Fennel oil on just the dud. But buy quality kind from say young living or do terra. Or nurse the dud first and last. Or as my LC calls it: offer the third boob. My dud now produces the same amt but still looks smaller. Ugh.
  • Mother's milk tea is a good supplement. :)
