Odd behavior after vaccines

So, right now I'm listening to Evie scream and jump in her crib almost two hours after she normally goes to bed.

She got her 18 month shots on Friday, including the second half of her flu shot. She was feverish all day Saturday, which broke slightly after some Tylenol. She never had a concerning fever, I think just over 100 was the highest I read (I guess, I don't really trust my thermometer.) Saturday she was very lethargic and seemed to have a hard time walking around, like her legs were jelly. The strangest thing? She's been having sporadic moments of random babbling, latching onto one word she knows and repeating it constantly along with babble. Like, almost manic babbling. And now she absolutely will not go down to sleep. She's slept consistently and at the same time every night for over a year. She currently does not have a fever.

Something just feels very off and I don't know what. I wouldn't even know what to tell her doctor...she's talking a lot? She's always been a chatterbox, but nothing like this before.

Am I overreacting? Has anyone heard of ... babble ... as a side effect of either the flu shot, dtap, or hib, or hepb? (Yes, four shots. Four.) And for what it's worth, this is the first time she's ever reacted to her shots.

  • I don't know, but call your pedi ASAP and tell them you want her seen. Better safe than sorry. Good Luck and my prayers are with you!

  • I have never had reactions like that, but I know when my Evie gets even the slightest bit of a fever you cannot get her to stop talking, even in her sleep. The wobbly legs would have me a little concerned. I would give you pedi a call and make it sound dramatic so they will get her in right away. Good luck!!

  • DD had a temp of 100 the night of her shots she only got dtap and hep A though. It was gone the next morning though and hasn't been back. She had her shots Thursday and today she was very sluggish and just wanted to cuddle but that is pretty far apart, not sure if too far.
Hope she feels better in the morning!

  • The wobbly legs thing is really concerning.  Any updates?
