Showing a Mommy/Daddy Preference

Over the last couple of days my son has thrown a tantrum every time I leave the room he is in or if his Dad tries to take him for a diaper change. My husband said today that he thinks Elijah hates him. I told him it's just a phase. Am I right about it being a phase? Has anyone else had their child show a preference for mommy or daddy?

My husband is definitely the preferred parent when he is home! I think she spends her whole day with me and has had enough of my when daddy comes home from work and is all about him.

Ashley prefers Dad in the morning when he wakes up. The rest of the time it's me. For a long time it was me all the time.

We have been in this very same phase for months now. I have always been the preferred parent, but DH is the fun one. He gets in the floor with them and throws them up in the air. I play in the floor with them, but it's only to read books or do puzzles. When DH gets on the floor they run to him like moths to a light! So cute!

LO by far prefers me. It makes it really tough both for DH to spend time with him and for me to ever get a break. I can't even go to the bathroom without having him banging on the door and screaming for me! I think spending 1 on 1 time with DH would be helpful, but it's tough to make that happen.

Ds1 loves me and is a huge momma's boy. Ds2 prefers dh. Though it changes moment to moment that is underlying preference.

Alice does this. Then all of a sudden a light switch flips and shes all DADA!! DADADADADA!!! DAAAAAAAADAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

It depends on the time of day or if someone is leaving. Since h watches her during the day and I have her at night she clings to us during those times. She usually fusses for a little while when one of us leaves. H just left for the store and she started fussing. When I left earlier she was also fussing.

Wesley usually prefers me but he has his moments when all he wants is dad. My h is usually the fun one as well.

Totally a phase. Generally, MH is the favorite bc he's the fun guy. But a couple weeks ago I was the greatest ever. This week, back to daddy is the coolest. When I get her out of bed in the morning, she goes "HI mommy!" .....looks around..... "My daddy?"

I SAH and DS couldn't care less if DH is alive or not, even DH is always the fun one - making funny faces or funny sounds. When DH leaves for work in the morning and when he gets home in the evening, DS is totally uninterested. But when DH is home, DS does enjoy playing with him and has no issues with me not bring around.

When it is just me and DS during the day, he is pretty attached to me. Some days he does okay playing independently for a while, other days he is more like a cling wrap. At least he lets me go to the bathroom without a fuss, and I can usually take care of laundry when he plays in the living room.

She shrieks with glee when he comes home, like it's the BEST THING IN THE WORLD that he's home, but if she's having a rough night (nightmares?) then he can't console her and she just wants me. Otherwise I don't think I see a strong preference.

Dd2 favors me. She gets super excited when DH gets home and squeals and runs to him and she will take either of us if she is just wanting to be held. However if she is hurt sick or tired she wants only me. If DH tries a motn she freaks! Luckily for me she wakes motn only about once a week
