Cloth Diapering

Anyone else having one of those days?

In the Universe's grand scheme to prove that I am the most useless cook on the planet, I managed to start a grease fire in my oven this morning. The kicker is that I was only cooking biscuits!!! I still haven't quite figured that one out. I was planning on making a roast for supper, but now I have to do it in the crock pot while the oven does its cleaning cycle. Then I get to scrape out whatever is still left in the oven. Fun times. Who else is just having one of those days?

Re: Anyone else having one of those days?

  • Ugh.  Sorry to hear things aren't going so well for you Jane.

I had one of those days yesterday.  So today I'm doing nothing other than relaxing & getting ready for tomorrow.  I've got soup simmering on the stovetop.  That's the extent of my cooking.  I dusted & vacuumed earlier.  That's the extent of my cleaning.  Just bumping, watching movies with D, and playing with G.

But I have the un-ending laundry day going. I still have 4 loads to go.

  • Yes! I have been a horrible cook lately too. Remember my "how to get the burnt smell out" post.

Well the bright side is it was only buscuits and dinner can be made in the crockpot. :)

  • I am having a really bad day. In fact, February was just a really bad month and now it looks like March probably will be too.

I'm about to go soothe myself with some retail therapy.

Yes, this is true! Thanks for helping me see the bright side. The sad part is that we were all super ready for supper way before the roast was done, so we had leftovers instead. On the plus side, we had really good leftovers and I won't have to cook supper tomorrow. The biscuits didn't even get burned, either. The fire just caught were the butter was running off of the pan into the bottom of the stove. I followed the same recipe I always use, but I guess I left the butter chunks too large?? Oh well.

So really this is a brag. When things go utterly wrong your food survives!!
And to boot you don't have to cook dinner tomorrow.

I'm really starting to not feel bad for you. ;)

Considering I've had to scrap the "ok" food from the burnt to the bottom of the pan food... Just so we could eat something other than cereal or eggs.

When I was a teenager I went on a month and a half long trip to Europe and the night before leaving I made some drop biscuits for the trip. The thermostat on our oven didn't work, so the oven was either on or off. But biscuits only take 10 minutes, so I could usually make those work. Unfortunately I was busy packing and forgot about them for 45 minutes. When I finally remembered the whole kitchen was filled with smoke, the biscuits were each mini bonfires and my yelling and screaming causes my dad to run out of his bedroom naked with a fire extinguisher. Good times, good times...

This made me honest-to-goodness snort out loud this morning!

  • I think something fell into my garbage disposal. The noise it made when I ran it this morning was awful. I'm considering calling my FIL to fix it because he will be nicer to me than my husband, who will blame me when he's the one that throws things in the sink willynilly.

Oh my gosh... I so wish we lived close to handy family members for this very reason! DH has super selective memory when it comes to screwing things up.
