So I'm just wondering....what does a typical weekend look like for you? Do you typically just get household stuff done on weekends or do you make it a point to do something family oriented each weekend?
I ask bc this came up in conversation with DH the other night. I told him I'd like to make it a point to do more family fun stuff, bc it really seems like right now, the only thing we do as a family is sit around the house. Whenever I suggest a family activity (like the aquarium or children's museum, or even just going out for lunch/dinner), he finds something around the house that "needs to get done" instead. Which pisses me off to say the least.
I mean, yes DS is only 14 months so he's still young, but he's definitely to the point of needing to get out of the house and be occupied or he gets cranky/bored.
Re: Family fun on weekends
DH doesnt seem to be getting my point though. He agrees with me in theory that we should do more family stuff together, but then he doesnt follow through. He seems to think its silly for all of us to pack up and go out to the store/restaurant/mall etc when there are things at home that need to be done. Which I partly get (he works long hours during the week, so weekends ARE his only time to get stuff done around here), but i feel like there should be a happy medium somewhere.
This is exactly where we're at right now. Dh has been eating all the crackers lately. Or maybe part of it is that AF is in town for me...that combined with cabin fever makes me one cranky bitch for sure.
Summers are usually better because we do cookouts and hang out outside. My So is also anti crowds plus he gets bored quickly. Family time is one of our biggest issues.
Edited to add: we get home about 1 1/2 hours before DD goes to bed, so there isn't much time to do chores on week nights after she goes to sleep that could wake her (like vacuuming, etc.)
Looks like afternoon nap is a bust today.
DH takes both kids to the Lowes build and grow clinics, though, so that's their bonding time and my quiet time.
We'll get things done during nap, with DS's "help" in the afternoon or while cooking dinner, or after bedtime. Chore charts help. We are all happier if we get out... And we don't always do crowded things. We'll hike or go to a new park... Anything fun.

I cannot wait until this cold weather is gone! I love being outside and I'm sure DS will be walking by spring/summer so we'll be able to go to the park/beach/playground instead of dealing with big crowds at indoor public places. I just wish DH was more interested in being out and about...but he is definitely a homebody.
