Roller skates + alcohol = broken hip

... for my MIL.

She had gone skating last night with her youngest sister and her sister's kid. Drank too much. Fell. Broken hip.

We got this news around 9:30 last night.

Today we've had multiple phone calls from her ... the first because DH's brother told her that a broken hip was what she got for going skating and drinking. Fair point but unnecessary at this time.

She's also worried about her job, worried about seeing her boyfriend, and worried that the walker they're going to give her will make her look like "an old lady" ...

Surgery tomorrow. She's been given an epidural for pain - I want to encourage her to "go natural" as she so helpfully did for me when I was about to have Daniel but I fear that neither the humor - nor the irony - would be appreciated.

    Its interesting that our first reaction is "oh shit" .... followed closely by lol. Luckily, she seems to be ok and in good hands so I don't feel TOO bad for my reaction.

    My MIL broke her hip a couple of weeks ago. Not bad enough to need surgery or anything, but that didn't stop her from calling the Red Cross to try to get my husband to come see her on emergency leave. 


    We need to start a club. We'll get matching jackets. Pink satin ones. With walkers on the back. 

    And false teeth in the pockets ... ;-)
