How'd you do it?

I just wanted to see how you second time or more mommas got labor going the first time around? I've had my water broken both times but this time I'm going for a natural birth and although I am aware that my water may not brake on its own, I just wanted to see if ya'll did anything besides the have sex to induce labor and walking. Like did ya'll dance your baby out :) or idk just something fun??

I tried EVERYTHING in the book except for castor oil. Started around 37 weeks by son didn't want to come until 40.4 >.<. I plan on not even bothering trying to force it this time -.- my water didn't break either the doctors had to do it. Pushed from a 0 station -.- lil man just didn't want to come out.

I'm scared it's just not going to happen for me at all! I'm kinda iffy about it too because I feel my child is just gonna refuse if I try to push it, like try getting labor started !
  • I walked. When I hit 39 weeks, I was pretty effaced but not dilated at all. I just felt so ready to be done, and I knew walking wouldn't work if my body wasn't ready. So I walked 3 miles outside in our neighborhood at the end of August.. It was so hot, it was rough! But then I went to the doctor a few days later and I was 3-4 cm dilated. I had her the next day at 39w6d. So who knows if the walking did it, but I feel like it helped.

  • I mean it only took me 30 min from a 0 station to push my guy. At one point they got a chair ready to push him out will I pushed. So they will get out one way or another. I went into labor as in contractions naturally though. I just wasn't dilating fast enough and he just didn't want to drop.

YOU GO GIRL ! 9 months pregnant walking 3 miles ! You wouldn't catch me doing that especially in August! Did your water break on it's own, or did the doctor break it for you?
  • I had an epidermal as well more power to those who can do it without one, but I knew if I didn't have it. I would end up giving up pushing him out and something bad would happen.

Oh okay, got it! I just feel like since this is my 3rd and last I really want to experience everything naturally, I just hope this little boy isn't stubborn :)
  • I walked around the mall/target for a few hours a day during my 39th week. It was too cold outside or I would have done that. The day I went into labor I walked around target getting a few last minute things and then came home and took a nap. I woke up really needing to pee so I rolled off the couch and ran to the bathroom and my water broke!
Walking and sex are the only recommended things that help labor come sooner (so my OB said last time). Best thing to do is wait until your baby is ready and your body is ready. It's super hard, though!

I'm also scared that if I refuse it and its too late I'll be so tired to push him out I'll end up with a c-section :/

Yeah, I kind of felt like I was going to die during the walk haha. The very end is a GIANT hill, I almost had to call my in-laws to pick me up halfway up the hill because I didn't think I could make it back up.

The doctor broke my water when I was 7-8 cm dilated in the hospital.

UGH I know it's gonna be super hard especially since I'm impatient but I'm gonna try super hard to wait it out and let my body do it's thang :) Hopefully I can do it and have the experience I want too :)
  • Induction began at 36w3d due to superimposed pre-e. They broke my water (not dilated at all upon admittance). After 16+ hours (made it to 5 cm) emergency c/s due to fetal distress.

    LOL I bet !
Oh okay, I wonder what actually makes your water brake? Like I just think it's so weird how it just doesn't happen to some women but it does to others!

Yikes, that sounds horrible, I'm sorry about your experience! How was your recovery from the c-section?

My fear exactly that's why I opted for the drugs.

UGH Oh God now I'm really thinking about this !
  • Nothing?  Early labor started 5 days before my due date, active labor started 4 days before my due date and DD was born like 10 hours later.

  • I tried eating lots of pineapple and pineapple juice the week before I was due... Something I read online.. Haha. I went to a baby shower that day at 39 weeks 3 days and everyone was teasing me saying I needed to go have sex and have the baby that night. I did NOT have sex and yet my water broke at 1am and I thought I peed the bed. Lol. I gave birth a little after 3pm that day (four days before my due date). I'm pretty sure everyone thought I did what they said which I find a little awkward. Haha :) I don't know if the pineapple contributed or not...
  • I had my cervical check at 38w. Apparently that did it, spent the next day in labor, water broke at midnight, DD was born by ECS a 2:28am.

Foley catheter aka foley balloon. This was in place of a cervical ripener (like cervadil) and sufficiently put me into labor. I went from a 1 to a 5.5 in an hour, and was able to avoid pitocin. I tried all the tricks and owt's. Nothing worked. This was at 42 weeks. Hoping to go into spontaneous labor this time so I can avoid being in the hospital. The really optimistic part of me would love to have this baby at 38 weeks so I can "get back" the two extra weeks I spent pregnant with dd.

Eta: Oh, and my water broke naturally while I was pushing. It was on push number 2.

  • Was induced.  However, I was told to drink some wine, relax, have some sex. Blah.

This time around, definitely drinking the raspberry tea daily starting around 37 weeks. Then again, the midwife says it will only work if baby is ready to come out.

  • Skipped labor and had a scheduled c-section due to breech baby. I feel like such a FTM because I have no clue what labor feels like!

Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!

  • With my last two I was overdue both times.  I had tried everything, but sex (DH was not into that).  Castor oil worked like a charm both times.  Within about 4-5 hours of taking it I was in active labor.

I went through a weeklong induction process that involved 2 Prostin/Cervidil placements (one double dose), Cytotec (for which I had to sign an off-label waiver), and Pitocin. I still never went into labor. DS's giant pumpkin head wouldn't fit through my pelvic opening, so he never dropped/engaged, and I never dilated or had a contraction on my own. Two triage nurses and my OB attempted stripping my membranes, but my cervix was too closed even for that.

I even started taking red raspberry leaf super early and had increased to an outrageous dose by 38 weeks, and I took high doses of evening primrose oil orally and vaginally.

If your LO and your body aren't ready, nothing you can do will put you into labor.
