3rd Trimester

NST

Anyone's LO not like performing for this test? I have them weekly now and every time she doesn't give them the things they are looking for....because of this I also have to have an ultra sound weekly...I kind of like this because I get to see her in action but the reason I am having them concerns me. I was wondering if anyone is having the same issue and if anything has helped their LO move for this test.

Re: NST

  • I was told to count kicks. I pushed a button when I thought he moved.

I was told to take a snack in. Peanut butter crackers or something. Cold water can get them to wake up.

They would also "zap" him to wake him up if those weren't working

  • Unfortunately she is most active when the place I go to is closed and because I am still working 40 hours a week I need to schedule them around my work. This usually ends up being in the morning hours ... her least active time of day. What I mean by seeing her in action is in the ultrasound where she moves around and I can see her body parts as she moves. I was not referring to the action during the NST. They are saying she is non reactive for the most part (or not enough reaction) & there are no contractions as of yet.
  • I saw this post and it hits very close to home.  I am 37 wks 3 days today. I have been going to my NSTs 2x per week as I am high risk (my first LO was a preemie).  I get the same results on my NSTs in that he moves enough on the monitor but they don't get the heart rate accelerations they are seeking or (on 2 occasions) he had a heart rate drop.  I have gone in for multiple u/s due to these issues as well.  It just seems to add to the roller coaster that already occurs with pregnancy.  The RN has to buzz him every time lately.  The RN and MD feel he is a deep sleeper thus his accelerations are not as extreme or lasting as long as they would like.  The MD does not feel concerned at all as the u/s have shown that he is doing fine.  I always seem to be on the fetal monitor for an hour while other women come and go.  I do find it a bit frustrating but also relieved that they are keeping a close eye on him.
  • @curlyq ... yeah my ultrasounds always show she is okay but she doesn't usually give them the accelerations that they are looking for in a 20 minute period....I am also high risk because of my age & I have gestational diabetes....they keep telling me I need to eat ... however I do eat before these tests so that is not the issue. The last one I had a muffin which is not on my GD diet and she performed like a superstar so maybe its something to do with sugar IDK. I have had 3 so far with only the last one being what they wanted to see without warranting an ultrasound.
  • My LO wasn't moving enough, they used this noise maker thing and she practically jumped right out of my belly!  Drinking something sugary an hour or so before was also recommended.

  • Cold ice water or a piece of fruit usually gets my little guy's heart rate going. I have them 2x a week and I've noticed he's more active with these two things.
