VENT- Rude comment from co-worker

Ugh, I need to vent. I was just having lunch with my co-workers, and one of them mentioned how I was getting so close to my due date. I said that I was not really that close, still had 8 weeks. THEN another co-worker, who has been slightly hostile about my pregnancy, chimed in "yeah, she's not that close, she just looks like it." She was suggesting that I was getting very large. I am, unfortunately, incredibly self-conscious about my size and changing body, so this was hurtful to hear. I just shrugged it off and said "I actually have two more months of growth to come." The same co-worker made a comment to me at the beginning of my pregnancy about how I was going to be just like her when she was pregnant and gain a ton of weight.

I am not that big, in fact have gained on the lower end of how much I should be gaining. I am short, so the belly is somewhat shocking. All of this aside, it pisses me off that people think they can say things like this. Now I am having a hormonal moment and feel the tears coming. Perhaps I am being overly sensitive, but people need to think before they speak.

ETA: I feel guilty now for posting this, because I realize I am just being whiny. But, it did feel good to write it out. So thanks for those that read my complaining and sorry if it was a bummer of a post.

Not a bummer at all. This is a good place to vent.

I'm sorry that you're feelings were hurt. People are just thoughtless sometimes -- and other times they are mean on purpose. I never have been able to understand why.

I'm so sorry. Some people are so rude and insensative. It's always suprising when it's a women, especially when they've had children. You'd think they would know better.

People are rude, bottom line. She was obviously projecting her own issues onto you. I am sure you look beautiful and exactly how a pregnant lady with two months left to go looks. Some days are harder to deal with comments than others, so try to shrug it off.

Your co-worker sounds like a straight up bitch. I would steer clear of her if she's not going to be the kind of supportive friend you need. Who needs that crap?? I'm sorry she hurt your feelings, don't even allow her the satisfaction of making you feel bad.

I will never understand why people think it's ok to comment on your size when you're pregnant. And most of these comments come from women with children. Don't they remember how they felt? Sorry they said this!

Ugh, people are so rude. I think you handled it very nicely! Don't know that I would have been that nice.

Me and my sister are pregnant and today my office manager said "oh these two are really starting to look pregnant now. This one's really starting to pooch (pointing to me)." This is coming from a woman who has horrible hygiene, smells, and has the worst wardrobe ever. Still ticked me off.

Anyway, I'm sure you look great! I might tell her to shove it if she says something again!

Earlier this week, I had a coworker ask when I'm due. When I responded June, he said, "June? Are you sure you're not having twins?" Yeah, that felt great. I, too, am short (5'3") and carrying fairly high. This man also does not know that this is my 2nd pregnancy which means you usually have a bigger bump sooner even if you are gaining the correct amount of weight. It sounds like your coworker was trying to make herself feel better about how much weight she had gained during her pregnancy by putting you down; a very childish thing to do. Try to ignore any insensitive comments. Your body is doing an amazing thing and should be cherished.

I can totally relate to dealing with these comments. I receive them constantly from people and I have some serious body image issues. I would do the "wow" comments next time and see how she responds!!

It's okay to be whiny about that. People are so insensitive. I get the size comment a lot too because I am so short and my belly is large. I'm sure you look great and they are just being stupid.
