Remi's Week Late Birth Story (cksmith29)

Short:

Remi Kay was born 2/22 at 2:09pm.  She is 7# 11oz and 21” long.

 Long:

I was scheduled for an induction on 2/22 because late (41 weeks exactly).  I was pretty nervous because this is the first of my three that required induction.  I thought the 12 year gap may have caused my ute to forget how to have real contractions.

I was feeling “off” Thursday and Friday, but nothing to really indicate something was about to happen.  About 2am on Saturday 2/22, I started feeling real contractions.  They kept waking me up, but nothing urgent was going on.  DH and I decided to proceed with the schedule of going to the hospital at 9:30.  Sure enough, I was actually having productive, cervix changing contractions, though they were not strong or regular enough.  By 10am, they started a slow drip of Pitocin to get things rolling.

Things happened pretty quickly from there.  I started having strong contractions about a minute and a half apart.  At noon, while bouncing on a yoga ball, my water broke with all the Hollywood flair.  The look on DH’s face was priceless.  From there I was dying.  They didn’t want to check me yet and wanted me to keep laboring without being bothered.  I was able to get in a good position to sort of handle the pain, but it didn’t help that the lady in the room next to me was screaming at the top of her lungs.  I mean screaming.  Even our nurse was getting annoyed.  DH and I decided that I didn’t want to end up like that so I said epidural time.  Dang, you ladies who go without are my heroes!

Well, the epi did not work very well.  I was having contractions 30 seconds apart and in absolute misery.  I had to stay in the laid back position slightly on my side in order for the epi to work, which seriously did not help.  DH was awesome by my side the whole time.  He rubbed my hands, arms, face, hair… all the stuff that normally annoys me but really helped then.  I had to look away and stay in the zone or I was going to become a screamer like my neighbor.

The nurse came in and needed to check me since baby’s HR dropped a few times.  To all of our surprise, it was time to push.  I was ticked because I wanted the epi to kick in and take a nap.  But, meeting baby girl was a better option.  So, after 4 hours of real labor and 3 contractions to push, little Remi Kay came screaming into the world.

She was 7 pounds 11 oz and 21” long.  She looks very similar to DH, but she has noticeable characteristics of me as well.  She has huge alert eyes that can melt absolutely anyone’s heart.  Today is her one week birthday, and the family is trying to get used to having a newborn in the house.  Yep, it’s as hard as I remember, but we’re all hanging in there.

Thanks for reading and here are some pics.  I can't resist adding my big girls meeting the little girl.  They are super proud sisters and don't even mind when Remi decides it's screaming time.
