I obviously feel pretty comfortable around you guys so here's my issue:

My nipples and surrounding area are so dry they are cracked Is this normal or is it because of the horribly dry climate here?

I've been putting lotion on them like crazy but it's not helping!

Edited because words are hard.

  • Mine get like that sometimes. I would buy some lanolin and put that on them. You will need it anyway if you plan to breast feed.

  • Not happening here, although we live basically in the swamp so humidity is always high.

Try lanolin, lotion, and drinking lots of water. Hope it feels better soon!

  • Mine are doing the exact same thing. Never happened until I was pregnant. I figured it was from my boobs prepping for BFing. I also put lotion on and it doesn't help
  • Happens every winter to me.

  • Lanolin! Get them in good shape now before baby comes, especially if you plan to BF.

  • Mine have been dry too, probably because when they're more sensitive than usual, I don't pay much attention to them in the shower or afterward when I put on my lotion. The past month or so I've been making a conscious effort to wash them gently with a gentle moisturizing body wash, put lotion on them after my shower, then rub in a tiny bit of Aquaphor at bedtime. They've been feeling much better.

  • I started a discussion about this before because mine were horrible. I asked the dr because not only were mine cracked at the tip of the nipple where the hole is they were dry and scabbing on the sides. The lanolin worked miracles on them. Never had dry nipples before, but I am in very dry, cold NJ and I'm dry everywhere else. Looks like I'm going to need the lanolin when I start breastfeeding.
