Genetic testing question

Which is the genetic test where they can also tell you the sex of the baby, and how far along is it administered?

I'm asking because after having being firmly anti-genetic-testing, DH came home tonight thinking that now he wants to do it just so we can find out the sex earlier.

I will, of course, convince him this is a bad reason to do it, but maybe it is too late anyway??

Re: Genetic testing question

  • The one I am having done is the Harmony test. Most insurance companies will only cover these type of tests if there is a medical reason why you need them - need being the key word. Wanting to know the sex of your baby a few weeks early is not going to qualify you. You could always pay the $800 out of pocket.... But IMO that is just insane. Wait a few more weeks and learn the sex at your anatomy scan.

Oh they are usually done between weeks 10-12.

  • Yes I already said above that this was a bad reason to do it. I'm 36 though so it might be covered.

Thanks for the patience lesson. We have an 11 month old. Reading comprehension 101 -- I would have talked him out of doing it but by asking the timeframe now I don't have to waste my breathe because it's too late for us anyway.

  • Yes that's what I wanted to know -- so that I knew whether or not to have this long annoying conversation with my husband about why we should just skip it. I don't think it's that unclear -/ I said right there, "I will convince him it's a bad idea." And why should it warrant any kind of response other than an answer -- why does anybody care why we do or do not do this or what we do or don't spend our money on?
