Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Ectopic Pregnancy - duration?

Hi ladies -

I am a periodic poster in this forum and a regular in Oct 13.  I am at the tail end (I believe) Of an Ectopic Pregnancy.  I started bleeding on January 30 and got a positive pregnancy test that day.  Best I can determine, we concieved around New Years.

Since Jan 30th, I have had a vaginal U/S (they think they were able to see an empty sac)  and betas every week.  My HCG rose for the first two weeks in Feb (up to a little over 2000) and then started to fall.  I'm still sitting at betas of 1040 today and am still bleeding.  No pain or discomfort, so my doctor is not worried.

I am just curious, for those of you who have been through this, how stinking long does this take?  I'm happy to see my betas falling but this feels like FOREVER.  I had a miscarriage in Dec of 2012 and it was a week of heavy bleeding and then it was basically over (physically I mean).

Any experiences you are willing to share would be appreciated.

Re: Ectopic Pregnancy - duration?

  • So sorry you have to deal with this.

Did they confirm this was ectopic? Did they see the sac in the uterus or the tube itself?

I know every woman is different and these things take time but to the best of my knowledge EP can be serious and I would think they would want it resolved sooner rather than later.

    Hugs.

  • I am so sorry for your loss.  Everything really depends on your diagnosis.  I did not have an EP, but I had a PMP last year and my betas were 2,500 at one point.  I was advised not to TTC for a year after so that they could monitor my betas.  I would think that the doctor would also be cautious with an EP and want you to drop to the negative numbers.  I had a D&C last year in April and my betas were not negative (from the 2,500 starting point) until August.  They actually plateaued somewhere in the middle.  T&Ps for a speedy recovery and I hope that you get the answers you are looking for soon!
Married my best friend 7/2/11 - Furbaby born 7/9/11 and brought into our home 9/1/11

BFP#1:   2/2/13 ~ exact m/c date unknown but around 3/20 at 10 weeks ~ diagnosed with PMP ~ D&C on 4/5 ~ TTA for at least 1 year due to PMP ~ cleared to TTC 1/14

    BFP#2:   2/7/14 ~ m/c 2/20/14 ~ possibly due to chemical pregnancy ~ TG no D&C is needed

Surprise BFP#3:  4/4/14 ~ super duper extra happy (and nervous) about this one - EDD 12/9/14!!!

John Joseph was born on 12/12/14 at 7 lbs. 11 oz.  He is the most beautiful rainbow baby we could have wished for!
