Breastfeeding

Breast feeding my newborn

Hi ladies, I need advice breast feeding my baby. My milk hasn't come out yet so I'm feeding him that liquid that comes out first (forgot the name) but I am not sure when my milk will come out and also my LO falls asleep while I'm breast feeding and doesn't get hungry until like after 3 to 4 hours after being fed. I'm a little concern on both things. Sorry ladies, first time mom :)

  • Colostrum is all your baby needs until milk comes in :) that being said how long does she feed for before falling asleep and how many wet and dirty diapers is she having? That will tell you if she's getting enough if those numbers are good then keep doing what your doing if they aren't then you will probably need to work on keeping her awake longer for feeding feed her just in a diaper tickle her feet rub her head anything to keep her awake so she continues to nurse to help establish your supply the more she nurses in the first few weeks the better your milk supply will be. And just a warning when your milk comes in you may get engorged and it may be more difficult for baby to latch so just make sure she's latching well so you don't end up with damage. Drink lots of water and get as much rest as you can when your milk comes in she may want to eat ... a lot !! Best of luck and congrats

  • Taking baby's clothes off and putting him on your bare chest is a good way to tell him it's time to eat, but it is important to wake them until they're back up to birth weight like PP said. As far as your milk coming in, the colostrum is all baby needs at first. Everyone is different, but mine took 6 days and LO was still fine with no supplementation so don't worry.
  • No need to worry
  • Thanks ladies!! Also, my left boob is very hurt :/ my baby latched wrong and since I didn't know if it was right I let it be so now I am super sore and have a cut :( . In this case how can I breast feed him if my left boob is like that? My right one is fine just normal soreness . Please any advice will help me. Thanks ;)

  • While the sore nipple is healing, you can offer the other breast first so baby is more relaxed when feeding from the injured side.
