Success after IF

Newborn = lack of housekeeping & personal hygiene

DH just said to me "nice camel-toe rip" - I looked down at my PJ bottoms and just started cracking up b/c not only is there a rip, but the rip is actually supposed to be a butt crack rip and I had them on backwards!  Plus I had pee all over them b/c Cal just peed on himself and me, and there are blood stains from when I was in the hospital! (at the time I didn't realize there was a rip).  My nursing bed jacket is soaked with spit up as well as dried breast milk from earlier when I started to nurse but had to abort b/c Cal needed an emergency diaper change, and I proceeded to leak everywhere.  Not to mention we had just been commenting on what pigs we were b/c there were dirty diapers on the floor b/c we don't have a proper diaper bucket and have been using a plastic bag but I had just thrown out the plastic bag..  And how about the fact that it's 1pm and I'm still IN pj bottoms?  It's just comical!

  • LOL! The good news is it gets better and easier with a newborn. Our first week was exactly like you described. In fact I had to have a changing station on the dinning room table the first week home because going to the bedroom to change him was to hard!

  • LOL - it will get easier luckily!  Do you have anyone around to help you around the house for a couple hours?  I was so overwhelmed today b/c we had christmas presents everywhere, laundry overpiling - my sisters came over with some coffee, gave me an hour and a half and the house is decent again - yay!  I'm so lucky and will pay them back once they have their babies. . .

I have to say in the beginning it's very hard to do stuff around the house from being sore after delivery.  It took me a couple weeks before I could get into it again.

  • i'm almost 6 weeks in and still an unwashed mess most days ... sigh.
    Wheee!

  • I'm almost 7 weeks out and I still have days like that.  In general it gets better, but some days feel like the first week all over again.

  • Thanks for this post!  Sounds like it is totally normal and I'm getting an idea of what to expect...!
  • I used to laugh at women who said they didn't have time to shower and here I am going on day two!  I didn't change out of my pajamas for a month after Sophie and Hannah were born.  Eek. Oh well.  I swear it does get better.
  • LOL Um yeah.. I'm totally there!!  I do manage to get a shower in almost every day.. but I haven't dried or curled my hair since he was born.  Some days I manage to get some make up on and look alive.. but it's rare.  I usually wind up in PJ's all day or lounge clothes anyway. I think I recently solved the pee mystery.  I was getting peed on at least twice a day but I had a talk with a couple of family members who are nurses and they told me to flip his little peeper the other way so it's pointing down and it will stop the leaks.. and it did!!

Believe me..  you are not alone.  I don't know about everyone else but Collin is almost 3 weeks old and I still rarely put real clothes on.  I look at myself in the mirror and think.. good lord!!  I look like a mess and the bags under my eyes are ridiculous!!!  I hope Cal sleeps better than Collin because Collin is up ALL night almost.

  • You say PJ's at 1pm like it's a bad thing. I spent my whole day in PJ's yesterday and it was heaven!

Ditto on the house-cleaning though. The only time our house gets cleaned is when we have family visit (once a month)... 'cuz we ask them to do it.
