Space Heater and I need a pep talk..

edited February 2014 in February 2014 Moms
Ok question first...

Is it safe to put a space heater in the nursery? If so, is there a specific brand that is safer or a specific type?

Lo's room has a big window and it can get cool in there.

Two, someone give me a pep talk, tonight is the first night that LO is in his crib in the nursery and not in the bassinet in our room. My goal is to make it through his first sleep and then maybe put him in the bassinet after the long sleep. I'm stressing out and constantly checking the monitor already. Plus he cried, not hysterically but definitely more than fussing) for like 7-8 minutes and I let him. I feel horrible. LO will be 9 weeks old Monday for reference.

  • Nothing to add, because I have the same cold room problem, and baby is still sleeping with me. But you are not a bad mom for letting him cry for a couple minutes, it was probably for less time than you thought anyway. You are not, and never will be, a bad mom!!

  • Thanks. It's harder than I thought it would be. I don't know why. I hope he's not too cold I guess? He's in a thin sleep n play and a halo sleep sack swaddler. I've gotta get something to keep it warmer in there. The heat is on 69 but it's a cool night here and even in the summer i would be afraid that the AC would be too cold for him

  • 9 weeks is too young to leave her to cry. If a newborn is crying, they need something.

I understand some parents chose to let babies cry, but before 6m, it's not appropriate.

Yeah, that's exactly the pep talk that OP needs. Way to help out an overwhelmed new mom!

6 mos? That's silly. There is nothing wrong with CIO at 3 mos. and besides, I don't think the OP was actually doing a CIO method- sounds like she did what her baby needed to get some sleep! My baby cries her head off every time we get in the car... What should I do- pull over every 2 minutes to soothe her? Umm no.

  • @VeronicaAnn143 how did last night go with LO in the nursery?

Fine actually! Except he didn't do a long stretch like he had the two nights prior....bummer. The monitor was nice and loud and the screen stays on if it's plugged in so I just had to open my eyes to see him...so really I could keep a closer eye on him than I can in the bassinet. Hopefully he does a long stretch tonight though!

Ok...well he didn't need anything except to let himself fall asleep. He was clean, dry, fed and warm. He was just fighting sleep. He probably would have been crying if I was holding him too. We weren't letting him CIO...he doesn't even know where he's laying yet. He just fights sleep.

  • Oh and in an exciting turn of events he hit a milestone today! I was doing head shoulders knees and toes to him and he made eye contact with me and smiled a HUGE purposeful smile!
