Elevated white count?

Just heard back regarding the GD test - I passed! The nurse that called me also mentioned that my white cell count is slightly elevated. My OB isn't really concerned, as she believes it's attributed to my Crohn's disease and I have not had any fevers or signs of infection *knock wood*. I did contact my GI specialist's office just to keep them in the loop as well. Anyone else with GI issues have this happen as well, or even anyone without GI issues? Just not sure how common something like this is. Thank you so much!

Re: Elevated white count?

  • an increase in WBCs indicates the body is trying to fight off something. It can indicate infection but people can have an elevated white count with any illness or when your body is trying to fight off something. Are you having a crohns flare up? If your doctor isn't worried, I wouldn't be

  • The only Crohn's issue I've really had throughout pregnancy has been some blood in my stool, but that's it. I think the blood is from developing 'roids, since I've never been constipated in my life until pregnancy. Thanks for the feedback!

  • I have this as well dr said it can mean I was simply fighting a cold or illness but I do have to get follow up blood work
  • My WBC count was elevated when I did my test too. I wasn't sick nor did I get sick. Baby and I have been just fine. I wouldn't worry unless it was off the charts or something.
  • My SILs WBC count was high when she was in labor with her first child. The Anesthesiologist told her that if she got the epidural then she had like a 1 in 1000 chance of getting meningitis. Other than that she felt fine and the baby was fine. She wasn't able to get the epidural because her grandma was in the delivery room with her and she said that if he stuck her granddaughter with that needle she would sue the hospital. (A little dramatic)

  • Thanks for the feedback ladies! I feel a bit better knowing that it's pretty common and nothing to stress over.
