Calling all renters...

I'm following the link from yesterday about home buying with a lot of interest, because we are still renting. I started my own consulting business this summer, after my husband finished his residency and started his first job. We are just trying to build up a savings, so buying seems far off right now.

Just curious as to how many of you are renting, and if so, is it an apartment, condo or house? We are in a high rise in Chicago, but plan to move to something with 3 bedrooms, instead of the 2 we have now.

If you rent a condo or a house, would you share the pros/cons with me?

    We rent a house. The biggest con to me is throwing money at something that will never be ours when we could just be paying toward a mortgage. The biggest pro for us is that if anything breaks it's not our time, labor, or money to fix it. We've had the heat pump and garbage disposal break (and since they weren't user error problems) the landlord fixed everything. Not having to worry about any possible extra expenses is very very nice.
