Can u still get RLP at 38 weeks?? I have had one or two sharp pains today both on a "side" that we're sharp and took a sec to go away....felt very similar to RLP. As a FTM I have no clue what a contraction feels like but these have been totally random and non-timable so not toooooo concerned (but of course as a FTM everything concerns and scares me). Thanks

I'll be 39 weeks tomorrow and I still randomly get RLP. I'm assuming it's normal, haha.
I've had a few people tell me that babies usually wear Preemie sized clothing for a few days. My mom had 5 of us and said that we all wore preemie clothing for a few days since we initially dropped some weight after birth. Any STMs want to weigh in on this? Did your babies wear preemie clothing at all? I have 2 preemie sleepers, but they're so tiny that I can't imagine her being able to wear them.
Nope, DD wore newborn. She was 7lbs 12oz and I delivered on my EDD. I think premie size would have been way too small.
@CHalePhoto Audrey was only 5lbs 4oz at birth and about 5lbs 10oz leaving the hospital, she is a preemie (33 weeks) and we crammed her into a couple preemie outfits to take photos to show the people who bought them. She fits much better into mewborn clothes.
Rhys was 4lbs 7oz, about 5lbs 1oz now and swims in newborn clothes, he's much better sizes in preemie stuff. I'd say as long as baby is over about 5.5 lbs they're better in newborn stuff.

Keira and Owen were both under 5 lbs but 18" long. They are too long for one-piece preemie outfits but might fit into two-piece for a few days yet. I would say your best bet will be newborn sizes if only for length.
I guess my kid was the odd sized one. She was born 6#4oz and all the newborn clothes were huge on her. We had to stop and buy preemie size on the way home so she could stay warm.

I only ever had my preemie clothes for my preemie. The newborn ones barely even got used. My full term boy was 6lbs 8oz. I guess it might depend on which brand because I have noticed a variation in the actual size and the tag size.
Also, I'm assuming pack n play sheets are for the extra mattresses people buy and not the mat that came with the pack n play?
not totally sure, but I have regular pack n play sheets directly on the pack n play mattress that comes with it. (I've tried several different brands, and some seem to fit "better" than others. I do know I havent liked any of the "quilted" ones I've tried; they seem bulky and don't lie as flat as I feel comfortable with. I dont know if they would fit better on a bigger mattress.)
Our pack n play sheets that we bought (graco) were for the actual little mat that came with the pnp. They're not like a fitted sheet for a bed - they're more squared off and fit over the mat. Kind of hard to explain.

This is me too. E was born at 5lb 15oz and left the hospital at 5lb 10oz. He swims in NB but is too long for preemie. We just make NB work for now.

What do I do about baby boogers? @babycaps ? The bulb suction thing just pushes them further in. I just started using saline drops, will those help them?
For me, I only notice BH because they make it more difficult to breathe. If I'm suddenly struggling for air, I find that my belly is rock hard. It lasts for about 30-60 seconds about 1-2 times an evening. They're not painful at all, and it took me awhile to realize that they are BH.
I had always heard and said that your water breaks. While watching Call the Midwife they always say that your waters (plural) break. I thought it was British or just old fashioned, except then my doctor said it too! And I have read several ladies on here say it too! Am I the dummy who has been saying it wrong? Is it regional? Why would water be plural?
Thanks to anyone who will indulge my curiosity!
I've wondered this same thing. I'm in Texas, and we say a lot of things wrong, so I'm no help. :-)
The nurse told us this weekend that the correct term is bag of waters, because there are many different fluids and substances in the bag. Examples are amniotic fluid, baby's urine, vernix, baby's excess hairs.
Thanks! I was really curious!
And, ewwwwwww! Why is pregnancy stuff so gross? Like, placenta might be the grossest word ever...except maybe for cervical mucus. It's like they're doing it on purpose!
I searched this board and google...the search results didn't answer my question, but were enough for me to not want to make this a new thread XD How long is a typical birth plan? I used a birth plan generator of sorts that someone posted a few days ago and mine ended up being 2 1/2 pages long. It seems like a lot, but I've got nothing to compare it to. It's a 12 point font bullet list right now, so I won't be making the words any smaller or anything...
I didn't end up making one of my own, but I was going to try to make mine one page just to be a snapshot and make it more likely for people to look at it. I doubt nurses etc will want to take the time to go through several pages.

Mine is one page with bullet points. I have three sections (during labor, after labor and in case of c-section). Not sure if this will be of help to you but I tried to keep everything out that I can think of in labor or that is already hospital practice (our hospital already does skin to skin immediately and breast feeding so I didn't include that). I figure with simple things, I can request when I see fit: if the lights are too bright, I can ask them to dim them, if I ask for ice chips, then I want ice chips please, etc.
I included must haves in case I'm out of it or DH isn't on top of things (no episiotomy unless it's a last resort and baby is in distress, no circumcision if it's a boy, no hep b shot, things that are imperative to me).
A lot if sample plans are so detailed and they give you a lot to think about. Good luck!!!
Is there actual factual information or any studies saying that ftm's are more likely to go late?
Not really a "dumb" question I'm asking because I want to see it... Now that I'm getting so close to my edd people won't stop telling me I'm going to go late.
I haven't seen anything "factual" but plenty of anecdotes. People always have an opinion and the last thing a super pregnant woman wants to hear is that she's going to remain super pregnant past her due date!
Good question! I just found this in a quick Google search. It's an older article, but according to it the short answer is yes, FTMs on average go longer than STM+ and everyone goes longer than the assumed 40 weeks. I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if there are other articles out there that found the opposite though.
Is there a need for padsicles if I'm having a csection?
Probably not. Regular pads for bleeding (absorbent enough for a heavy period) as you will still have bleeding post section, but shouldn't have the swelling or pain/tears that padsicles are supposed to help with.
bjd316 I have this one from motherhood. I can't say much for how it works while nursing since my babies are still baking, but, it is sooooo comfortable

If I had a smaller chest I'd love the motherhood bras - good quality.
BUT I have mountains so they don't fit.
I like the bravado ones. My breast feeding resource sells them. Expensive but works. I was looking for good support with no underwire. I'm happy with what I have. You can get them online from target to

I think 2.5 pages might be a little long...my birthing class teacher suggested keeping it to one page, and going for bullet points over complete sentences, though a brief paragraph at the top stating your birth "goals" or "wishes" (more realistic than "plan") and thanking your care providers for their support is usually nice. Anything longer or wordier likely won't get read.
I found that a lot of the options on birth plan templates weren't relevant at all after I took the hospital tour and had a conversation about standard practices with my OB. For instance, my hospital doesn't provide pacifiers, so I didn't need to include a note about not wanting them to give one to LO. Asking lots of questions now should help you whittle it down!

How do you know how long your insurance company will cover your hospital stay? Are you expected to call them and ask them yourself, or does the hospital know and will kick you out at that time?
Re: mom's labors vs yours.
Going early/late is not what you can base your labors off of. However there is a correlation between mother/sister labor length and yours. My grandma was induced with my uncle, and had a wicked short labor, went naturally with mom and had a short labor. Meanwhile my mom had 6 hours for big sis, 12 for big bro and 48 for me. Meanwhile my active labors were 8 (or 21) and 5.
However, my cousins (mom's side) had super long labors mimicking the 48 hours. Which was a lot like their mothers.
So, it's not a rule but it's why sometimes people ask.
(I hope my sleep deprived brain explained that little anecdotal thing well enough. )
I find this very interesting. (And I hope it's true for me!) But I asked my doula about it, and she thought it actually had more to do with bone structure than genetics (which are obviously related.) She thought the biggest indication for a short labor was large feet (indicating a big bone structure?) Interesting, eh? That would be a study someone should do. My mom has pretty big feet, size 10, and her first labor was like 4 hours long. My feet are more average size (8), so maybe I won't be quite as lucky.
@lalaith50 sadly I wear size 10-11 depending on the shoe, and somehow my bone structure wouldn't allow me to pass a 6 1/2 pound baby My mom wears size 8 I think, and had 2 9 1/2 pounders. So maybe as far as time of labor it works? But not what will fit? Idk just my experience.
Not a FTM, but this is the our first time living where they have real winters (we are Arizona natives now living in North Texas). It doesn't usually snow here and I didn't think I would have to deal with this in March but it's been staying pretty cold and our High Temps range anywhere from 30s to 70s... So my question is how do I dress our LO for bedtime?! Do I use a long sleeper plus swaddle? In Arizona with DD we always just used a onsie (sometimes short sleeve even) with swaddle but now I'm worried that might be too cold here. But I don't want LO to overheat either! If it makes a difference we keep our house/heat at 68°
Ladies that dye their hair.. Did you go darker before baby to make sure you didn't need to go to hair salon, did you keep your normal color and normal salon routine, or did you just delay your next dye appointment and deal with the dark roots?
I'm naturally med brown, but dye med blonde, and hit up the salon every 6-7 weeks. TIA!

I'm in Canada, and we dress the twins in a warm fleecy sleeper, then swaddle them. They seem warm enough in that!
Totally random and pointless question...I was wondering earlier if you still feel LO moving during labor? I haven't had any BH or contractions yet so I really don't know what any of that feels like. LO has been moving a lot the last few days and it just made me curious if I'll feel that still or will the pain, etc make it where I don't feel him.
Also would an epidural mean I couldn't feel him move?

I am wondering the same thing. I do know that I can't feel him move at all during Braxton hicks. All I feel is a rock hard stomach, then once they calm down I feel his wiggles again. I can't imagine the intensity if I felt both at the same time.
Not super baby related, but I'm seeing an old coworker for lunch today and she's due for her second baby boy a week to the day before me. We're not super close, but I'd like to get her something. Second LO, planned, and both boys, so I imagine she has most of what she needs.
