Can I ask a resume question?

Sorry to butt in on your board, but hopefully I'll be joining the ranks shortly. I have a resume question. For once the jobs I'm applying to require a resume (previously I worked in fast food). I haven't written a resume since high school several years ago, for a school assignment.

Everywhere I look has conflicting advice, so I was wondering what worked for you guys. Right now mine has my contact info, my job experience, and my education. I have a skills section written out but wasn't sure if I should include it. Right now it's this:

Skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Office and Photoshop, typing skills of 60 WPM. Able to satisfy previously unhappy clients, good empathy and listening skills. Positive attitude and good teamwork.

Is that okay? And am I missing a section (I know not to put an objective anymore)?

Re: Can I ask a resume question?

  • There are a ton of resume templates on Microsoft Word that might be of help to you.
  • Loading the player...
  • For the skills section, I would leave out personality stuff - like how you work well with others. You could include something along the lines of "work well under stress and in a fast-paced environment" but the other stuff comes through in the interview IMO.

Also, typing speed is relevant for admin positions. If you're applying for that, great - keep it. If you're applying for other kinds of work, it may seem a bit out of place to include it.
