PUPPS, chaffing, rash, etc.?!?

This is my 2nd pregnancy. It is a boy. I am 33 wks. For the last week or so, my butt cheeks (skin) has felt extremely raw, like it's on fire. It doesn't really itch, but is extremely uncomfortable. How do I know if this is PUPPS or just chaffing? I just looked in the mirror and I don't have any stretch marks on my butt but I have tons of red dots and the skin is red in color, blotchy looking, and slightly raised. It feels like it's starting to go down the back of my thighs but I didn't see anything due to being so large now. Should I call the dr? Is this something that can wait a week or so till my next appt.? (I just read something about fifth's disease on google and am freaking out now.)

  • Can you call the office and have her give you a phone consult? I had something similar earlier in the pregnancy also on butt cheeks and elbows. It was never really diagnosed other than dry skin/eczema and I was given a topical anti histamine to soothe it.
I don't think it's the end of the world if you wait a week but that's your call and how comfortable you feel with that. Alternatively you could also see a dermatologist.
Sorry you're going through that. Can't be fun. I remember itching like I was going thru drug withdrawal. Sometimes it would even make my skin so irritated it would bleed. Oh the glamour as of pregnancy :) hang in there. Almost done!
  • I was told that you can only get PUPPS your first pregnancy and that's it. I had it my first pregnancy and I was absolutely miserable. Oatmeal baths are wonderful! Hope you feel better

  • I have something similar that is on my legs. I asked my midwife about it and she said it's not PUPPs unless it starts on the stomach and then moves elsewhere from there-- so if I didn't have it on my stomach it wasn't PUPPs. (anyone know if this is true? No reason to distrust her, but that's not anything I've read elsewhere.)

She said just to put something very hydrating, like Eucerin, on it and to let her know if that doesn't help at the end of a week, in which case she would give me something stronger.

I was told this too. That's where mine started.
  • What PPs have said - PUPPS starts on your trunk (belly, sides). Sounds to me like you have a bit of a heat rash. Have you been sweating a lot back there? (I get that all the time when I'm not pregnant, so....)

  • I've been super dry on my bottom and backs of my thighs and I got red and rashy there recently as well. Ditto the hydrating lotion recommendation.
