Hey everyone!!! What do you think of Sydney for a boy?

  • I like the name, but I've known 3 female Sydneys and no males. I wouldn't side eye it though :)

  • The only male Sidney I know is Jason Segel's character on I Love You, Man. It is all girl to me.
  • Only heard Sidney for a boy a few times and it's not my style.
  • It's a boy name that was taken over by girls. I know two Sidneys; one guy and one girl.

When I picture a guy Sidney, I picture a really strong man. I kind of like it but only if you spell it without the y.

  • I love the name Sydney but more for a girl. I think Sidney is the masculine spelling of the name and think it is cute too especially the nn Sid.

  • I had a Sydney in class that was a boy.  He wasn't the best. Name ruined for me.  Oh, to be a teacher............
  • I would go w a different name sounds like a girl :/
  • It's a fine name when you spell it with an i instead of y, IMO. But, really, I just wanted to comment on how many people think it's only a girl's name. I would definitely think of it as a boy's name over a girl's name. Cultural, perhaps?

  • NMS either way, but I dislike it most for a boy.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • I can't read the name without it being in the creepy Scream voice. And then I picture Neve Campbell, so it's female to me.

  • I don't like it for a boy.
  • My great-grandfather was a Sydney, so I don't mind it at all :).  That said, he was named after an aunt and they didn't change it to the boy spelling, which is Sidney.  If you like it, go for it.

  • I hate it as a boy's name. Probably because it's MY name
  • I only know it as a girl's name... my friend's little girl is named Sydney.

  • I'm not a fan of it. While it was a boys name, the fact that I've known only female Sydney's overrules it as a boys name in my mind.

I wouldn't side eye it though, if you spelled it Sidney.

  • I like it more for a girl, but if you're going to use it for a boy, spell it with an "I". Sidney.
