  • Welcome back! I completely understand what you are going through! My boys were 36 weekers and those early days are such a blur. It's funny- no matter where I am, every twin parent says the same thing, "It will get easier." And, it is so true. I feel like 4 months was a turning point and the period between 7-12 months was so insanely fun because there were two of them. Now, at 17 mos, my boys are best buds (and frenemies!). It's the best.

If you have any specific questions, please let us know! There are so many things I wish I could go back and tell myself because those learned tricks will make life so much easier!

  • Thanks ladies- right now my two main issues are: 1) not pumping enough (only 1-2 ounces) and always pumping late because of the boys schedule interrupting my plans to pump lol and 2) they eat every 3 hours but feeds take 1.5-2 hours and I don't know how to shorten it! They are eating between 2-4 ounces per feed and not always at once. They will drink a little then rest, then wake 5 minutes later and drink some more , burping takes forever and we have to have them inclined 30 minutes after eating due to spitting up ( we just switched formula to see if its a milk intolerance). With two that means I get 30 minutes tops of sleep. I am averaging 2-3 hours per day if sleep and ready to go crazy. Any advice. Appreciated! Thank you!

  • I never had the supply to EBF, but the very best thing I did was pump while they ate. I strapped the double electric pump to me and just turned it on while they ate. It can be a little tricky to burp, but I found I could fit a small baby between my breasts and as they got a bit older, I was able to just bring them to my lap and lean them forward. Some moms just flip them on the boppies for burping (is that what you are using to tandem bottle feed? If not, you can YouTube it for tips on tandem bottle feedings), but I had a son with ridiculous reflux, so that never worked for me.

Anyway, when they were 5 or 6 months, they actually got used to me strapping on the pump, so they waited patiently for their bottles! That pumped milk would go into the next bottles. If you are trying to work on supply, I'd contact a LC with experience in twins. I seriously regret not meeting with a twin LC, as mine said I was beyond hope due to two horrific latches. A "power hour" also helped me get the supply up.

As they got older, I fed them in bouncy chairs, then just sat them in my lap with their backs facing me and my arms wrapped around them. But, I could only do that when they no longer needed to burp and I was no longer pumping.

I'm so sorry that got so long, but I wanted to help! I remember those early days- I actually used to fall asleep in the middle of sentences and wake up screaming parts of my dream. And, that whole sleep when the baby sleeps- ha! I know it is so hard now, but it really will get better!

  • Hi-hi! Yes, your hands are very full! Congrats on making it through the first 7w. Gosh, it was hard with one, two is crazy-town (in a good way, of course!). Hugs to you and a high five!

Okay, kind of a weird piece of btdt advice, really watch your back. Especially because you had a c/s. Your abdominal are stretched from pregnancy and rearranged/cut due to c/s. With twins you are doing twice the lifting, laying, etc.

My Pilates instructor shared this tidbit and I was really careful (squatting and lifting with my legs, tightening my abs before lifting or laying). So many of my mom friends have back problems and none of them had heard to guard their back. ::okay back to minding my own business::

  • Hi Jezebel!
I'm just a few weeks ahead of you, and the sleeping does get incrementally better. Not every night, but eventually they'll start sleeping longer stretches.

That is a really long time for their feeds. It usually took me about an hour to feed and change both, so it sounds like I was a little luckier in that respect and don't know exactly how to speed that up. How is their weight gain? Are they eating so slowly because they've just finished and aren't really hungry?

Also, would trying breast feeding be an option for you? It is really hard to try to pump on top of feeding two. Breast feeding is soo much less time consuming if you can make it work. No pump parts, less burping, no separate feeding and pumping times. Just an idea. Lactation consultants can help if you are having any issues. That would help with your supply too - I'm sure the reason you aren't able to pump as much is because it's so hard to do it as regularly and for as long as you need to.

I'm glad to see you posting here! Hope you can do so more often. Hang in there- you are doing a great job!
