It's Unpopular Opinion Thursday!

I'm feeling like the board needs a little jazzin' up this afternoon!

I've mentioned my UO before, but I really don't have any others right now that I can think of, so I'll mention it again.

I absolutely love rap music. Boom.

I hate feeding toddlers food. Because 90% of it winds up in the floor for the dog. But then the dog gets full so I step on French fries and grind them between the wood floor boards... And then the dog spends the next 24 hours licking the floor trying to get it back out. And subsequently I step in a slimy wet spot. Drives. Me. Bonkers.
Same. My kid is obsessed with "feeding"" the dog...aka, throwing all of his food off of his high chair. My floors will never be clean again. I'm okay with that.

My mother is a bad person, and I won't maintain a relationship with her just out of cultural expectations that we should respect and cherish our mothers.

I think that works for a confession and an unpopular opinion.

I think I like just about every mother in this group more than I've ever cared for my own. This has been the best week I've had in a long time.

Wine cheers to you! I know it is not at all the same as cutting your mother out of your life, but I cut my best friend since kindergarten out of mine back in December. Just like you, I don't feel any regret at all about doing it. I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders and I hardly ever think about her anymore.

Like I said, I know it is nowhere near as emotional as it must be to cut your mother out, but if you feel like it's the right thing to do then it must likely is. You do not need any negativity in your life that just creates additional stress. I'm glad it seems like you did the best thing for yourself!

I want to love this a million times. So, so ugly.

Rynleigh - I am so sorry that you are going through this.  I cannot imagine how hard that must be and the stress that it adds to your life.  I really hope your mother one day has a change of heart.  But regardless, I hope your  heart is able to heal and that you are able to move on from this.  I am just so sorry :(

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

  • I would still wear them if they weren't total sweat producing machines and didn't look horribly stupid with socks LOL

  • I'm so tired of the breast is best stuff. We all know it's best. It served it's purpose, but at this point all it does is make those who were unable to bf feel bad.
  • Agree on crocs!!!

Also, I am so sick of looking at 300,000 facebook pictures of my friends baby bumps and babies.  First of all, you are 11 weeks pregnant with your first baby, stop posting pictures of your bloat, that is not a baby making you look like that.  Secondly, I have seen 200 pictures of your sleeping baby today, she looks the same in them all and I didn't think she was cute then and I don't think she is cute now.  The end.

lol I would rather see 1,000 pics of a baby than hear one more thing about someone's diet or gym workout on FB. We get it. You're burning calories. You're lifting heavy things. You live a healthy lifestyle. Super! I eat fruit. In liquid forms.

Oh man, this. I have one friend in particular that I'm thinking of. We went to high school together. Her entire Facebook and Instagram accounts are dedicated to pictures and- wait for it- VIDEOS of herself at the gym and the "healthy meals" she's preparing. I now know what day is tricep day. And also how to make a 90-calorie lunch with Starkist tuna.

The worst part of it all, though, is when she occasionally does "cheat meals"- in other words, what I normally eat. She then follows the pictures of her cheat meals with about a hundred hashtags like #fatfatfatty #fatgirl #fattymcgoo #gottarun23miles tomorrow #sogross. I shit you not.

I'm not at all impressed by your gym rat lifestyle or your "healthy eating"- but I am concerned by your distorted body image and your obvious disordered eating habits!

I'm so evil... I worked with this woman a few years ago who was like 80lbs (4'10") and was always going on and on about how "fat" she was. I used to be a size 2, and it would make me so mad because I was already a good 40lbs heavier than she was and she always managed to make me feel like shit. Then I got pg, gained 80lbs, and only ever lost half of it, and REALLY felt like crap when she opened her mouth.

Well, she got pg last year and gained over 100lbs. And never lost an ounce. >:) I'm sure she had some sort of wright issue or complication when she was pregnant, but I can't help but feel better about myself now that it's been a year and she's still holding onto that weight.

And now I feel guilty for feeling so happy...

I have the ballet flats too! Sensible shoe wearers unite! Also @tarheelmama202 "fatty mcgoo" made me snort-laugh. Does she really use that phrase? I hate her for her douchebaggery but love her for inadvertently introducing "fatty mcgoo" into my life.
YES! These are actual things she says. And there is always a multitude of hashtags with that similar theme.

But the thing about jellies is that they don't cause kids to trip.  I hated the Crocs when I was a teacher bc on linoleum, they would stick.  And then the kid would walk/fall out of his or her shoe.  And fall down.  And cry.

This is incredibly unrelated, and I understand if you don't want to divulge, but where in DC do you live? I'm in NE and incredibly nosy. I'm guessing you live in a suburb but could be totally off!! I've been speculating for a while :)
  • As a PE teacher everyone expected me to be into the Olympics and I couldn't give two shits about them. My job makes me hate a lot of shoes, like crocs because parents think they are tennis shoes. I hate parents who dress their kids in those big giant hooked boots too! I don't have a lot of complaints about my job, but shoes are a constant battle for me.

As a tiny skinny person I hate when girls are like awwww I'm so fat, or I need to loose weight. It's totally a giant yell for compliments, don't feed into it!!!! On the flip side, my UO is,I hate when larger women use my weight/size as an excuse to humiliate or insult me. Ugh your so freak in skinny go eat a cheese burger or it's so gross I can see all of your bones. I don't advertise it, but even being small and skinny I can be self conscious about my body.

We just can't win, can we! The ONLY time I have ever commented on someone's weight (other than my own), was when my cousin went through an anorexic period.

I also suffered from an eating disorder while I was competing gymnastics, so she stayed with me for a while. I was always sensitive to her situation, but she needed a good slap up side the head a few times. :)

  • Add me to the list of people that can't stand all the fitness posts on FB and instagram. If you take a selfie in the mirror at the gym: you are a toolbag. And the crossfit people who think they are better than EVERYONE else are seriously the worst.

There should be an age limit in selfies! Grown adults posting selfies is ridiculous

  • ALL of and everything about Facebook annoys me, but I joined a long time ago and I'd rather have a defunct account than a "deleted" one. Occasionally I use it to retrieve a phone number or something but social media gives me the heebee-jeebees. Just plain ole forums for my internets thanks.

Actually I only use the bump and calorie count at about.com for support for my ED recovery and... Search engines and email. I used to watch movies online but not anymore since we only have the iPhone.

Seriously, if the people I know acted anything like their Facebook personas IRL I would never have become friends with them. They post stuff that they would never say to my face (or others faces) for one reason or another. I just ignored it and eventually stopped checking jn. I had to block my mom. Most posts are depressing and others make my blood boil and all of it is inane. My least favorite part of social media is how it tricks people into believing that they are socializing with each other, like you read all about soandso and now you don't feel like calling them bc what would you say?

I don't know how clear I'm being, if I'm getting my point across or just rambling.

Yeah, my UO is that FB sucks.

  • @rynleigh I am so sorry. At this point I can still see and talk to my mom once or twice a month. I try to skip months if i can get away with it. The decision you make is a hard one. I really hope it helps. There is no shame in trying to better your life. (((Hugs)))

This is why I don't have Facebook or texting.  If people want to talk to me, they have to call me and speak to me in person.  Some people in my life are extremely annoyed by this, probably because they aren't used to actually having to communicate with people.  They keep begging me to at least get texting, but I refuse.  If you're annoyed by having to have an actual conversation with me instead of communicating through a couple sentences at a time, I don't really want to communicate with you at all!

  • I think babies are the best thing about social networking (even though I *personally* don't post any pics of DS because like @SidraJedi, social media makes me uneasy)

Selfies don't bother me. If you look cute and you want to take a picture of yourself and post it for people to see how cute you look, go for it. IDGAF.

Real women have bodies. With lungs and hearts and skin and usually hair. The end.

  • My UO… I hope it doesn't start a big thing…

I don't like how people casually refer to certain types of people or groups of people as "crazy" or "crazies." Especially when those people are either just bad at communicating (i.e. "That board has a lot of crazies!") or people with differing opinions to the mainstream. I am even more bothered when people start throwing around actual terms for mental disorders ("It was like she had multiple personalities - she's crazy!"). I feel like it's ableist, and ostracizing to/of (English teachers help me out) people who actually suffer from mental disorders, and in some cases dismissive of someone with a valid, though different point of view.

I'm not super militant about it or anything, though. I don't really care if someone uses "crazy" as an adjective like "what a crazy night", I'm just more bothered by people using it in a derogatory way against other people.

    IDK if I'm making sense.
