My RE's office gave me a list of a few agencies to contact. I contacted three. I was given access to their database of donors. My DH and I looked them over and narrowed it down to 2 agencies. ( the agency we rejected had a horrible donor pool... not too be rude but the ladies looked rough and sketchy to be honest). My DH and I had a list of requirements to pick a donor.. they were basic. Health history, Family health history, and someone who generally looked enough like me. Both sites had childhood and adult pictures.
I'll be honest it was really weird at first. Like some sort of dating website. Then I saw my donors profile and I just had an instant liking to her. She looks like she could be related to me and I really liked all her answers to the questions she was asked. My DH wasn't so quick to agree to my choice... he wanted to make spreadsheets and analyze it to death. I gave him a few days and he came back to me that he agreed on my choice. Our donor then was tested by my RE and was cleared to start right away.
I stuck with my clinic because they have well above the national average and the best stats on DEIVF and FET cycles in the region.
My donor was ready to cycle right away but as you have read on my post yesterday we have already experienced a delay.
We did not want to do a shared cycle.... I want a big family and feared I wouldn't have enough embryos for the future. We will donate any unused embryos.

We did a shared cycle and the RE actually presented us with the idea so there was another couple that had first dibs and we were the back up. Wen you do a shared cycle someone has to be "up to bat" with the other couple "on deck" (is how my RE puts it) because if the donor for some reason does not produce the high number of eggs then sharing would be a problem. We were the "on deck" couple and lucky our donor produced 24 mature eggs and we each got 12. 8 of those made it to 5 day blast and that was a amazing number we got very lucky!

We did a fresh DE cycle with our own donor. The cost was 6k for the agency and 6k for the donor + all medical, legal and drug costs (ie the most expensive option). Once we were on board we got access to the database or girls. There were probably 2,000 ladies on there. We got to see everything (family history, baby and adult pictures, writing samples etc). Personally it took us 3 weeks to find someone we love. From there it was a ton of waiting (paperwork, testing, cycle syncing). Finally it was go time and 6 weeks later I got my BFP. From the time we picked the donor to transfer day was Early April to late July. It's a slow process.
Hello - hope you don't mind if I chime in but any idea what the cost difference is between a shared vs. non-shared cycle?
So with DE there are fresh vs frozen eggs and own vs shared cycles. Each combo has a different price and different pros/cons. So frozen is the least expensive, is almost always shared, the most risky but the process is very quick. A fresh cycle with your own donor is the most expensive but gives you the best chances of a baby + having frozen embryos for future babies and it takes a reasonable amount of time. I hesitate to start throwing out prices but you can call around and get quotes.
A single cycle at RBA is $16500 for 6 frozen eggs with a guaranteeif one high quality embryo at transfer (they are not tests so high quality is a defined term but doesn't guarantee that it is normal). This doesn't include your meds or initial workup/consult fee. If you are out of state, your u/s and b/w are not included.
The 5 cycle live birth guarantee program is $28K and you can go back to the egg bank 5 times to get a take home baby. FETs of any frosties are included. You have to qualify for the program. Same thing-your drugs aren't included and I did monitoring at home (extra) plus travel costs to Atlanta.
