Speaking of milestones...

When will my kid actually recognize her darn hands?? She always has them at her face but she doesn't actually use them to do anything. She doesn't swat at toys or look at her hands and I cannot WAIT until she does!! She will have so much more fun in her life when she realizes her hanging toys in the playmat can be touched rather than just stared at! She'll hit them sometimes but obliviously. She was 10 week yesterday...FYI kid, there are toes and feet down there too!!

Re: Speaking of milestones...

  • Baby Boots JUST started swatting at things a week ago and he's 3 months, but then he was a preemie so he might be a bit behind the curve.

Interestingly, he has very little interest in toys/rattles but he LOVES his Baby View ipad app. He swats at that thing all the time.

  • My little guy has been swatting at things andeating his hands for a few weeks but doesn't seem anywhere near actually grasping objects. I was trying to remember when that happens, sometime during the 3rdmonth I think.

  • At least I know it's normal then!! Makes me sad though that she'll likely start doing all the more interactive stuff when I have to go back to work :(

  • @ballerina10 Your LO will just wait patiently while you do stuff...? Not mine! She needs constant entertainment & attention from me and won't nap...no wonder I need a break when DH gets home!

That made a difference for us. For the feet...we got the piano playmat from fisher price and LO is bananas for it and we also got her foot rattles and she laughs when we put them on.

I was sitting here thinking "I guess my baby is ahead because he's already doing this". Then I remembered my LO will already be 12 weeks Sunday. He's been doing it about a week as well with the swatting and now he's actually pulling toys up to his face (started that Sunday at 11 weeks).

  • I was so anxious for DS1 to meet his milestones.  It was so exciting to watch him grow and learn.  It is still exciting to watch DS2 do the same but with each milestone met, I get a little sad.  I want him to stay a sweet little baby as long as possible.

THIS! Our FP rocker chair has a hanging overhead bar that has monkeys that can be removed. Took them off and McGuyver'd one of those hang across car seat toy to the chair with links. The fact that it's lowered made a huge difference. I also put anything and everything that was safe in his hands.

Even with all of this, it was still about a week before he'd swat at toys above on his playmat. He would touch and pet stuffed animals I would put at the side, but not above until just recently. He is 12 weeks today.

  • G will be 12 weeks on Sunday and seems to have discovered her hands about a week and a half ago. She'll stare at her fist intently, bring it to her face, then offer it to me, it's pretty funny.
  • Avery sucks on her hands and yesterday when going into the car seat she looked at her hands and got it for a couple seconds but that's all. She moves her arms and legs on her playmat and hits the things but I don't think any of it is on purpose yet. She's 13 weeks today 3 months tomorrow

This exactly :( for some reason, milestones were all excitement with ds1, but there's sadness/excitement with ds2. Maybe it's because we know how unbelievably fast it goes this time around?! Everyone ALWAYS says it but I swear the years have flown since ds1 was born!
