Exhausted... anyone else?

I am 30 weeks and am exhausted!!  I wake up several times during the night and try to go back to sleep... I work FT so it isn't like I can take a nap during the day.  Anyone else having the same issue??  What are you doing that helps?

Re: Exhausted... anyone else?

  • Absolutely.  I never really had a 2nd trimester energy surge like everyone else says, I've just been getting worse.  The number 1 thing that works for me is lying down.  I don't necessarily need to sleep, but whenever I'm completely exhausted, I lie down for maybe 30 minutes, and my energy comes right back up.  I also make sure to be in bed by 10pm.  Even if I don't get to sleep for an hour I feel way better the next day if I lie down at 10 and fall asleep at 11, vs just going to bed and going to sleep right away.

  • The lack of sleep at night is getting to me.  I just can't get comfortable, and all of the trips to the bathroom don't help either.  Unfortunately it gets worse as your due date gets closer...and then you have a newborn and will miss these days.

  • Ooooooh yeah. I have trouble getting off to sleep and I wake up several times in the night. My dad said this morning "you look a bit tired" so I just told him "from now on, assume that I'm always tired".

  • I'm in bed by 9 and LO likes to kick me awake at 5 am.  My boss likes to point out how tired I look.  Don't get me started about waking up twice a night to pee.
  • I'm not necessarily sleepy, but I am very lethargic the past couple of weeks. I feel like I'm moving in slow motion. My morning cup of coffee helps, and so do regular workouts, even when I don't feel like doing them. Also it helps when I try to stick to a higher-protein, high-fiber diet and avoid greasy, sugary junk food. Food takes longer to digest these days, so eat small frequent meals and choose snacks that will keep you feeling satisfied and energized, not sluggish and gross. You'll have a lot more energy six hours after PB toast and a banana than after a large order of chili-cheese fries.

  • Yep. Exhausted. And working (teaching) all day, then chasing a 2 year old until 7:30 makes me want to go to bed immediately after she does.

  • Same thing here! I can fall asleep easily but not for long. I constantly toss and turn from my back and hips hurting!

  • I am laying on the couch at my house during lunch break and just told my husband he must call my principal and tell him I am too tired to come back today....waaahhhhhhhhhhhh.
  • Yes yes yes.... I just want one good nights sleep before LO comes!! I'm still holding my breath lol....
  • Sleep is so important right now but so hard to get. My heartburn was so bad with DS that I wasn't sleeping well at all. I had a cough that lasted for two months. I finally started taking Prilosec so I could actually sleep. It was fabulous. This pregnancy I have the same issue so I'm doing Zantac. It is doing the trick too. It doesn't stop the trips to the bathroom or my two year old waking up but it makes the sleep I do get a better quality.
  • Yup!  So tired all day and then I can't fall asleep at night!  WTF is up with that?

  • My dad said again today "are you ok darling? You don't look too happy". I just told him that I'm tired and everything aches, then when those bits stop aching, new bits start aching. He just gave me a cuddle. He's a good dad.
Thing is, people keep telling me not to overdo it. I know my limits. I'm not stupid. If I'm tired then I'll take it easy. Thing is, who is gonna do my job when I'm taking it easy? I'm still getting paid to work. I can't just call in and say I don't feel like it because I'm pregnant. You get flamed if you try and flamed if you don't.

  • Yes, so tired! I have no problem going to bed and occasionally will wake up in the middle of the night, but will manage to get 7-8 hours. It wasn't until week 29-30 that I'm exhausted throughout the day. My eye started getting twitchy yesterday, but I'm still getting the same amount of rest. I just hope the exhaustion doesn't get worse in 3rd tri.

  • I'm out like a light every night from exhaustion, but then am up about every 90 mins or so to pee, and usually a couple other times solely due to the discomfort. My pregnancy pillow is really good but I'm a squirmy sleeper, so it always eventually moves out of place. Plus the HEATS....dear, God, the heats. I flip my pillow to the cool side every time I get up to pee.

  • I am exhausted too! I had a little bit of energy at the beginning of 2nd tri, but now that I'm in the 3rd tri I find myself being extremely tired. Luckily I work 2:30pm-11pm so the nights that I don't sleep well I nap once I get DD off to school. On my off days I make big plans to clean and shop for LO, but find myself sleeping almost the whole day away!
  • I have no great tips, but just wanted to say you are not alone.  Unisom is the only suggestion I know of, but it doesn't help me that much. I'm exhausted and do generally sleep ok at night. Working FT + pregnancy sucks.

  • YES!  Soooo exhausted.  30 weeks today and the last few nights have been awful.  Baby girl was doing giant rolls/flips which kept me up.   Not to mention the night leg cramps, bathroom trips and flipping from side to side because my hips hurt.   I have taken Tyl PM in small doses when really needed (i take half a pill) but last night that didn't even help.   My Dr. says Unisom or TPM is fine to take but I'm trying to avoid as well.  I say try it though if your Dr. says is OK.  Sleep is so important.

I'm an event planner and am either talking/being 'peppy' all day long or running an event which has me on my feet for hours at a time running around.   I'm scheduled to work a wedding 2 weeks before my due date and have no idea how that is going to work if I'm already struggling!   I'm going to look ridiculous and feel worse!

You certainly aren't alone!   Hope tonight is better for you!!

  • Yes 100% exhausted! We just lost 2 people at work so I'm on overtime there and in the same boat with horrible heartburn and frequently waking up (pee breaks plus my DH's sleep apnea)

I find that if I nap its even harder for me to fall asleep at night so I don't nap at all. I try to catch up on the weekends and never set an alarm, just let my body sleep as long as it wants. I'm a FTM so I know this is a luxury.

I try to keep the same routine every night so my body knows it is bed time. Same face washing routine, same journal, same music etc. That really helps me.

  • @ashtog fortunately I only pull about 4-5 hours on a wedding day but it's my 6th day of work for the week and already is tough and my feet, knees, and hips hurt for days after. Also I've got a great team that will hopefully pull extra weight. 10 hours as the photographer though...phew! Good luck to you!! Curious... Any good looking/cute/professional but supportive flats recommendations? My cheapo flats from Target are not cutting it!
  • I don't have an issue with falling asleep.. It's the staying asleep part that sucks. Today is my late day at work, I don't need to be there until 9:30am, I got woken up at 7 because my dog was throwing up. Well I did my morning routine and around 8:30 I was all ready so I relaxed on the couch and def started to fall asleep haha. I take naps whenever I can to try and help.
  • Im 31w and wake up 3-4x a night to pee, and am generally tired during the day. I work full time too and find myself exhausted in the morning after just showering and getting ready for work! :/ I try to eat healthy and drink lots of water but some days I really don't know how I manage not to fall asleep at my desk.
