Mini Pill affecting supply?

I EBF and started the pill 8 days ago; I've noticed a definite decrease in my supply. My breasts take longer to feel full, and 'feel' empty for hours after feeding. I've never had this before. I don't get as much when I pump either, about an ounce short on each side. I looked up on Kellymom and it said the mini pill could affect supply in some women.

For those taking the MP, have you noticed a decrease in supply?
Does it eventually get back to where it was pre-pill?

TIA
Here's a pic of LO for reading this :)

Re: Mini Pill affecting supply?

  • From what I have been told is the reason they prescribe the mini pill is because it doesn't interfere with milk supply. I never noticed a difference in supply but everyone is different.

This site says your boobs will normalize and not feel full, and feel almost like pre-pregnancy boobs. Often women think it's a drop in supply and give up BFing, when in reality that's just what our boobs do. May be what is going on...

  • That's exactly what it feels like, prepregnancy boobs! Maybe this is coincidentally happening and I'm linking it to the pill. Thank you!
  • I have not seen a difference my supply is still the same

  • Yes, my lactation consultant said that the mini-pill can affect supply in about 10% of lactating women who take it. She said don't let it hinder you from choosing this BC method so it's not common, but to be aware so that you can pursue other BC options if it does affect your supply. According to what she said, as long as you stop taking it within the first month you should be able to get your supply back up. You may want to contact an LC to ask for their suggestion as to what you should do.
