Hello ladies,
I was wondering if any of your LO's suffering from Colic?
LO's been in constant pain and keeps crying and cannot even sleep a full hour and wakes up crying. We have already taken him to the doctor and he was examined and told he had colic and it was quite normal in newborns, I was told it isn't anything serious but baby will be in discomfort and pain until 5-6 months until he starts taking solid food! I was suggested to give him gripe water which might help a bit, I have already given my baby that but it isn't really helping him much. Doc says there isn't much they can do. We were just told to monitor baby if the condition gets worse. But it's not really getting worse but LO does seen to be in constant pain...:( feels really helpless to see him struggling, grunting, going all red and crying constantly!
If you have similar experience pls share and if there are natural solutions to help him pls let me know, thanks!

  • I agree with a 2nd opinion.
I wouldn't like that I had to just deal with my newborn being in pain all the time.
What are you feeding him? If FF, have you tried switching? If BM, have you thought about eliminating some common problem foods, such as dairy?

  • I would get a second opinion. My lo has colic but it is caused by a stomach issue which is genetic on H's side. Right now, until my LO is a little older to have the surgery he needs, I have been giving gripe water and gas drops. I need to have him sleep vertically, so he is other in my arms, the swing or the bouncer. I set the bounce on vibrate and that helps.

I am sorry your lo is in pain. Colic does suck a lot, but once you find what helps, it gets somewhat better.

  • 2nd opinion for sure! Colic does not = pain. Also, do you have Happiest baby on the block DVD? If not... Get it now. The soothing techniques can be a lifesaver. Also, the moby wrap is very soothing for lots of colicky babes. Read up in the 4th trimester- it will help you understand what's going on.

  • My pedi recommended Gerber Soothe Drops. They are new and she says they work wonderful for colic. It actually says for colic on the box, I looked them up on the Gerber site. She also said that there isn't really evidence of gripe water working. I tried to get some of the Gerber drops, but CVS was out and Target & Walmart here didn't have them.
  • ITA w/ @bribbon and @slwprincess I'd start with a GI referral. My sister is a doc, and one of her colleagues from med school is a pediatric GI doc, and he said a lot of reflux is mistakenly diagnosed as colic. GL! Trust your gut--if you feel like something is wrong, push for a referral to a specialist.
  • Agree with @Akakk114 and the other ladies. There are the new Colic Soothing Drops (they are pricey, but have heard amazing things.) The Gerber ones sell at your local Walgreens and are basically rebranded Biogaia. You can check it out here https://www.biogaia.com/

I would also seek a second opinion if your LO continues to be in pain.

  • We had a similar situation with DD and cutting dairy from my diet made the difference. Agree with PPs that you should do some moe investigating to find out what the issue is,
BFP #1 9/2010 (lost our baby at 21 weeks) BFP #2 8/2011 (ectopic pregnancy) BFP #3 10/2011 (chemical pregnancy) BFP #4 12/2011 (Abigail born 8/15/12) BFP #5 5/2013 (Griffin born 1/23/14 with heart defects, now repaired!)

  • Thank you Ladies, I went in to see another doctor today, well he said the same thing as the first doctor but he's also suggested to let baby burp not once but upto 3-4 times and be patient and take about half and hour if need be!
Also, I have stopped taking dairy so I hope that helps as well! Thank you all!!
