One & Done: Only child

Oh help.

I was flipping through the Target ad yesterday while DD was doing homework. I was on the clothing/bra page and she glances over and says "one of my friends in class wears a bra, maybe I'll get one soon!" ... uh.   I know it seems like so much nowadays with kids is happening so much earlier, but I was so surprised to hear a 7/8 year old needed a bra.  I don't think my daughter is near that point, so it surprised me.  It scared me, too!   She'll be 8 in a few weeks, and I realized how close we are to double digit birthday!!  And puberty could be soon.

And then I look at all the cute little babies and toddlers in your siggies here, and I feel like that was YESTERDAY. Seriously.  And I realized just now how QUICK time flies.   Before you guys know it, you'll be looking at bras for your little girls too. Or talking about puberty. (boys too, obviously).  Of course, at that point my kid will be 16 and behind a wheel.

OMG. STOP CLOCKS.

  • Oh no.

We were looking at pictures of DS when he was a baby and H commented on how fast time went by. He said he misses DS' chubby cheeks.

  • Time flies. It flies. BRA shopping? I need a parenting manual or something here.. to get me through ages 8-14 I think. Picking out jars of peas and carrots on the shelf was fun.. not sure about bras with hearts and flowers on them.

And puberty scares the mother crapping life out of me.

  • Argh!  I was thinking about this the other day!

Not to make you feel worse, but if my DD is ANYTHING like me boobwise, she will be in a bra at 8.  Poor DD.

I actually blossomed early, myself.  In fact, I skipped the training bra and went directly to a B cup.  But from what I recall, I was more around the 11/12 age.  I think the girls in my class were more like 13.   I just feel like it happened later? Or maybe I remember wrong, and I'm just trying to pretend it won't happen soon.

  • One of my favorite book that I recommend to people raising girls is Reviving Ophelia.  It talks a lot about puberty starting earlier now because of diet and last so much later because of emotional development.  It is an older book too (like late 90s, early 2000s?), so then you factor in how much times have changed since then...we're doomed.

A storm that dumped up to 15 inches of snow on parts of Colorado and Kansas is making its way east, with winter storm warnings and advisories issued for today and tomorrow as far east as Pennsylvania. Thanks! I'll look into that.

I think 11 or 12 is pretty average, TBH.  There will always be late bloomers and early bloomers, but as PP stated-- things are just moving a hell of a lot faster in general for girls (puberty wise) as of late.
