Anyone else?

Since this weekend dd has been SO clingy even for her home DCP which isn't like her. I'm thinking maybe she's going through the next wonder week but I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this. At first I thought teething but now it seems more like she just doesn't want to be put down. I couldn't even pack my lunch this morning without her on my hip and dinner tonight only got cooked half way before dh had to come rescue her from the bouncy seat in the kitchen. I also always have in my mind the battle between being there for her and meeting her needs and making sure I don't spoil her.

Re: Anyone else?

  • You can't spoil your infant in my opinion. If DD is being clingy then clearly she wants more attention and at this age, I don't see why it would be an issue giving her more attention. My DD has times when she goes through this and I baby wear to make things easier. Try to think of it this way, it's not like DD can play independently and her motor skills aren't honed enough to be able to make her hands do the things she wants them to so she gets frustrated. She'll be able to entertain herself and be "alone" for longer periods eventually. If you are worried that she's really acting "off" and not just needing more attention, I'd just make sure it isn't another issue like an ear infection or cold. Teething can make babies more clingy too, they're in pain and want to be comforted.

I also don't buy into wonder weeks. I mean, I think there is truth to it but what does it matter? Every baby goes through phases and times when they are more fussy/hungry/clingy/whatever, you just have to adapt to them for the time being. What's our famous S13 phrase?: baby's gonna baby.
