Trying to Get Pregnant

Did I O or just trick FF?

Good evening ladies!
So, I am on the longest cycle I've ever had, which is frustrating but I'm dealing with it by starting to chart and temp using FF instead of the dumb app I was using before (which I think just wanted me to always think I was KU; if I didn't start my period on the predicted date, it would say at the bottom of the screen "are you pregnant?" NO!) Anyway, I know I was supposed to wait till CD1 to start temping and everything but I just wanted to take control of my fertility and kind of get into the habit of temping every day sooner rather than later. So I downloaded FF and started temping on day 40. Now FF told me I O'd on day 43. I'm wondering if my random start to temping tricked FF into thinking I O'd or if this is indeed a late ovulation and I was just lucky enough to catch it. Any advice or thoughts on this? I will link my chart...I did miss temping on Saturday because I was sleeping at our camp. I remembered to bring my thermometer, but I left it in the truck and by the time I was able to get to it I had been up and moving for a while (which I guess would bring me to a second question). Is it better to just not input a temperature at all for days like that? Or just temp late?
Thank you for any and all advice!

EDIT: typos and attached chart below!

  • You must have entered the wrong link. All I see is my chart.

  • Is there a chart link that I'm missing?

As for the question about skipping days, if it's just a late (or early) temp, I'd take it. If you've been up and moving around I wouldn't bother though.

Sorry, I'm new to linking anything on here...Did the new link work?

  • The chart worked for me. If you've been temping after 3 hours of sleep, before moving around, it looks to me like you O'd. However, I've only temped for one cycle, so these other ladies are more knowledgeable.

Hmmm... I would say that's it's *possible* that you ovulated then, but it's pretty hard to tell just because there aren't many "pre-O" temps. If you start your period (or end up pregnant) like 10-16 days later, I think you could conclude that your CH's are correct. (I know that doesn't help you now, but it might next cycle.)

If your schedule allows, you might want to try temping at the same time every day. That would give me a little more confidence in your temps. For some people it doesn't matter much, but I know for me it does. If you have a bunch of temps to average out, it might matter less, but with just a few temps, even one "off" temp could change everything.

Annnnd I'm rambling. Sorry. I get like this when I'm tired. I hope I helped even a little.

That chart link worked, but no way can you trust that it caught your O date.  FF only goes on the information you put in.  If it sees W or EW, and any kind of temp rise, it will show O the way it has on your chart.  But you have too few details entered to trust that.

All you can do is keep temping, and try to be as consistent as possible and see what happens.  If you get to CD60 with no BFP or AF, then call your doctor to get your period started (usually with progesterone).

Once you have been charting more months, you might be able to catch with few temps and knowing your pre-O and post-O ranges, but right now, I wouldn't put stock in that O date.  Good luck!

  • Eh.  With so few pre-O temps I find it a little unlikely.  But I guess all things are possible.

Haha, I appreciate the rambling. Thanks for your advice ladies. I have been getting at least 3 hours of sleep before temping, but I have not been the best at doing it at exactly the same time. I did read that you're supposed to, I just have a tough time waking up haha.

EDIT: I posted before I saw the other 2 replies. I was also thinking it was unlikely because of no pre-O temps. Thanks for the input! I already have a doctor's appointment set up for 3/21 so I am ready to get in there. Right now it's a race against time. Who's gonna win; AF or the scheduled appointment?!

  • In a perfect world you are supposed to temp at the same time, but for me I find as long as I'm in a general 3 hour window it doesn't really effect my chart.  I changed the setting in FF so it sets a default time and doesn't give me open circles even if I temp at different times.

  • The other thing I thought I'd mention - if it suits you - I used to play with the data a bit in FF.

I.e. you could see what happens if you take out that one day of W CM just before O and probably will remove your CH.  I'm not saying you didn't see that CM, but it can show how touchy FF can be.

My first chart ever the temps were pretty wacky and the crosshairs hinge on one day of EW that I recorded, although it was before I was ever tracking CM with any consistency.  I leave it there because I like having the CH, but I know in my mind it may be completely invalid.

  • Ah yes, I thought that too. I also thought maybe because I don't record my CM every day it might have affected it? I don't really know why I don't. I feel like my CM is just all over the place. Everyday it's different with no rhyme/reason/pattern. I don't trust it!! lol

  • There's nothing wrong with starting to temp in the middle of the cycle to get in the habit, except for that it might leave you wondering about things like this because it's incomplete. If you discard the outliers I don't think there is a shift.
