So just got a call from the doctors about my GTT, which I knew meant that it was not going to be good news. She said that one of the three tests were abnormal which they consider as saying I have gestational diabetes. I have an appointment to meet with a nutritionist on a little under 2 weeks. Anyone else with gestational diabetes have any suggestions? What should I be doing while I am waiting for the appointment with the nutritionist? Thanks!
Re: Failed the GTT :( Advice please...
The basics for me have been eating a balance of carbs (complex) and protein: breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack
I test 4 times a day: fasting and 2 hours after each meal. (testing intervals and target #s vary by practice)
It takes some time to figure out what your numbers can tolerate and what you have to cut out as your pregnancy progresses and your hormones mess with how your body processes glucose
I eat a lot of meat, cheese, peanut butter, hummus, nuts, veggies, beans, oatmeal, whole wheat (lower carb options) bread, cottage cheese, plain greek yogurt (with granola, berries, or a little honey)
I tend to do okay with my after meal blood sugars. Fasting sugars are my challenge and I did end up on a small dose of oral med before bed with DD. Neither of us had issues with our blood sugars after she was born.
You can probably search GD on TB and get some other meal/snack ideas.....April 2014 had a really long GD check-in thread last week with a lot of input from their GD ladies. the high risk board also gets a lot of diabetes related questions. good luck!

Hang in there, I know it's not ideal, but it's really not difficult once you get into the routine.
Good luck, and I'm always hearing about how the diet makes women feel better, so there's that!
Breakfast- 30
Snack- 15
Lunch-30
Snack- 15
Dinner-30-45
Snack -15 (if wanted)
I bought the book Calorie king. It has pretty much every food and restaurant you'd need, with a carb count for each item. It was small enough to just throw in my purse.
I passed have not had GD with my last pg's. But since I have big babies and my one hour was way off they still want me to follow the diet and monitor my sugars. It's pry a "good" thing in that I am watching much more closely what I eat. Good luck!
