Big Parent Preggo Reveal Question

Hello! So I have my first u/s this coming Monday (3/3). As long as everything goes well with that me and DH are planning on telling our parents the following weekend that i am pregnant!! Yay

We have not told them anything about our IF issues or that we have even trying for the past year and a half so this will be a BIG surprise.

My question is, how did you ladies tell your parents? I wanted to do something like get them and my brother t-shirts with Grammy, Grampy and Uncle on them but I think they will get suspicious if I show up with gifts for no reason haha Did you ladies do something big or just kind of say it?

We were very open with every step in the ivf process with our whole family. So I just called my mom before the pee dried on the stick :-/ not the answer you were looking for, sorry

it was nice to have everyone's support but I am sad we didn't get to have that moment with them.

For our DD, like you, it was a HUGE surprise (our families didn't think we'd ever have kids) so we had puzzles custom made on etsy that said "& baby makes three. July 2013" and we put them in bags with a cute poem that said something like "enclosed is a puzzle that might be tough to solve, but with any luck the message is brings will come with a lot of love" and we mailed them to our parents (all live out of state)
They were a hit! Our parents all had different reactions. It was a huge surprise, they had no idea.

both of our parents already gave grandchildren - 2 on his side and 5 on mine.

we didn't do anything special - just kind of blurted it out.

I had an idea of how I thought it could go, from the days when we first started TTC, and it went nothing like that. Like some of you other ladies, our immediate family had NO idea we decided we wanted kids. But we did end up telling them about IF after about 1.5 years because it was too much pain to hold in. They knew about each cycle after then, though not deep details. About a week after we got our BFP, we were lucky enough to have already had an ultrasound, so we dropped by my parents' house to announce and show them the u/s pic. They were ecstatic, and DH and I were just standing there, numb. The news had still not settled in for us at that point, that's for sure. Not how I expected it to go, but still pretty great.

We were going to give our parents their parent wedding albums for Christmas (yes, we're slackers and didn't get our albums until over a year after our wedding lol), but instead we taped a pic of our embryo to the back of the last page and gave the albums to them early. We also wrote a little poem about meeting grandma and grandpa and glued it into the front of a books that we both loved growing up and gave those, as well.

We decided to "swing by" my parent's house and I brought a valentines day card. I handed the card to my mom and she said "what's this?" I said "a valentines day card, I'm saving myself the stamp" then she opened the card and I taped a pic of the positive test on the inside and wrote "happy valentines day nana and papa! I can't wait to meet you!" Needless to say, it was a hit! No matter what you do,it will be a wonderful moment!!

@JMForte33, I'm so glad you asked this question. We're waiting until probably week 12 (if everything goes well) to tell our folks, but I have no idea how to creatively spring the news! Our IF path has been so crappy that no one even knows we had been trying. So, I've got to come up with some fun way to tell that still runs in line with our path. I hope lots more people post so I can steal some ideas!

I'm due the day after our 2nd anniversary. So the way we told my parents was:

"You know I like to plan ahead, so we've been thinking about how we're going to celebrate our anniversary. I know it's a ways off, and we don't have all the details figured out yet, but we know it's going to be wild and crazy. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we wound up in the hospital." (It's my family's kind of humor, I knew they'd get it right away...)

For DD, we waited for Father's Day and gave the ILs some gifts. We told MIL it was a belated Mother's Day gift. MIL collects special, customized type Christmas ornaments, so I had one made on etsy with a stork and a pink and blue ribbon at the top. It says "Special Delivery - February 2010" (and of course I got one for myself

) FIL got a custom made wooden sign that said "Papa's Man Cave" (they were recent empty nesters and he was converting a bedroom into his "cave"). They flipped. For my mom, we framed an ultrasound picture. It was her 10th grandchild at the time, but she still was so excited!
This time we just blurted it out -- "we're pregnant!" Still just as exciting, especially since they knew about our struggles... No matter what you choose, it'll be a special moment. Congrats!

With DS, I used a scrabble board (words Dave, Carol, expecting, January, baby) and took a pic and put it in a double frame. This time, DH spilled the beans to his Dad and Brother during a night of drinking. MIL was away so I waited a few days after my RE appt. Again with the scrabble board- big, brother, Davey, debuts, this, Spring.

i wanted to have a creative announcement but i knew i would be too excited to follow thru ..so for my mom i was giving her a belated bday gift and afterwards i said wait i have one more present..im pregnant! then as i was showing her the u/s pics i showed them one at a time with her all the while thinking its just one baby..then 5 minutes later i pulled out one last pic and said "and heres boh twins together" lol she flipped. everyone else was just a regular hey we're pregnant

We showed my mother in law a Picture of us holding our digital test she first looked at it and asked if she was supposed to scroll through. We said no it is that picture. When she finally saw she burst into tears. Most beautiful moment ever.

My mom lives out of state and knew we were going through IF for almost 6 years, she knew about the IVF cycle - heck, when I went home to visit her she had to give me my shots. My MIL knew as well. So, when we got our BFP, I just called her and she was so happy she started shouting. When we got the news it was twins, I called her again and she never stopped shouting. Just texted my dad at work and he said "shouts of joy here - coworkers looking at me strange"

I don't think there's anything you can do to NOT make it awesome.

When we found out genders, we gave onesies to my Mom and my MIL in pink and blue that said "I love Grandma" in a gift wrapped package that had a note 'Grandma, we thought these might come in handy when we come visit you.' It took them a minute to get it. But then, my mom was so happy, tears and all. My MIL just laughed and smiled.

We all go to great lengths to make announcements Pinterest-worthy, but they don't need to be. They'll be just as happy no matter how you tell them.
