Babies: 3 - 6 Months

teething?

My lo just turned 3 months and has also started teething apparently by the drool and the fact I can't keep her hand out of her mouth. We saw the Dr the other day and she even said she thinks lo is teething. Anyway, she's not fussing much more than usual but sleep this week has been miserable! Any tips for better sleep while teething? Last week she was sleeping 6.5 hours straight and then eating and sleeping at least 2-3 more hours. This week I'm lucky if she sleeps more than 3 hours at a time. It's like she's a newborn again. Any help?

  • My son has been drooling excessively and chewing on anything he can get in his mouth for the last month or so. And over the last 2 weeks, his sleep patterns went through the very same changes you are describing. But no signs of teeth yet. If she's not fussing or acting like she's in pain, the changes in sleep may not have to do with teething at all...yet.

If she is waking up hungry, it may be because she is not eating as much during the day and needs to eat more at night. I know my little guy has become very distracted and spends a lot less time nursing and a lot more time exploring the world, grabbing my hair, pulling away to "talk" to me and staring out the window. lol. I'd try to encourage her to eat often during the day and you may find that she wakes less in the middle of the night, this seems to work for us. But We are still not back to the 6hr-3hr-3hr nighttime schedule i was enjoying a few weeks ago.

  • My son just turned 4 months and began teething at 3 months also. He currently has 2 bottom teeth that broke through the gums, and can be fully seen. He does not sleep through the night like he used to. He's up every 3-4 hours and he only really takes 1 good nap during the day. His pediatrician suggested that we give him baby orejel... Sorry, I may have misspelled it. Anyway, it seems to help a little bit. It's homeopathic which is also nice.
  • My daughter has been teething slowly since 2 months. Hyland's teething tablets can be used in younger babies.  We also got her an amber teething necklace and use a clove oil blend on her gums.  Ditto to the frozen pacifiers and/or washcloths (sometimes even a cold wet washcloth works because she can chew on it.) It was really hard finding a teether that fit her little mouth but the ones that are like pacifiers work as did Sophie the Giraffe.
  • Amber necklace, frozen teething rings, teething pacifiers, teething tablets.
