Anyone scheduling elective u/s?

Just curious, is anyone scheduling an elective u/s at one of these "sneak a peak" type places?

  • Nope. I am only letting trained medical professionals examine my baby. https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/fetal-ultrasound-for-gender-check-opposed-by-ob-gyns-1.2546442

  • We are. We did with Ds and are with this one April 3rd! Not sure about all places but these women who own these business are professionals. They went to school just like a normal tech at my ob did.

  • My husband and I want too! We only get one ultrasound at 20 weeks and the anticipation is killing us!
  • Yes! I have looked into certified radiology/ultrasound clinics in the area and we will be going.. not sure at which date but probably between 12-16 weeks. DH couldn't go to the first appt so he didn't get to see the baby. It's really about giving him the experience since he was at training during the first one. We'll probably do a fun 3D one somewhere towards the end. I only get two from the DR at the first appt and at 20 weeks.
  • I looked into our place, and the techs are certified ultrasound/rad techs as well. I feel comfortable with then doing my ultrasound. I just wanted to get y'alls opinions as well;)
  • We are! My father asked if he could go to one of our drs appointments to see baby (its the first grandchild and he's super pumped) and since I decided that was pretty creepy I said if he wanted to pay we could do an elective.  So hes springing for the 4D and I'm enjoying the benefits.  This baby is already getting spoiled by grandparents. :)
  • My doctors office does electives to find out the sex for $50 and then a 3-D/4-D for $75. We are planning on doing both

  • I went with my last pregnancy a lot.  The women that owned the place were professionals that worked at the same hospital as my obgyn but they do this on the side.  They aren't all idiots that purchased a sonogram machine.  I won't be going this pregnancy because I get a sonogram with each appointment with my new obgyn.

How is an u/s at an elective place, less creepy than in a doctors office? ETA: ^ I don't think it's creepy regardless. Ftr, no, we probably won't. I wanted to last time, for the 3D pics. But where I'm high risk, we had 18 ultrasounds total with Junior, and we've already had 5 this time, with our 6th scheduled for March 14th.
I assume because it is vaginal??

The way I read it I think she thinks it's creepy for her dad to go to her doctor's appt with her.
  • The only alternative ultrasound that we are considering is having one of the 3D scans done at the local community college who works with our OB office.  They do them for free, but they only do so many per month.  You have to email the ultrasound office and your OB has to "clear" you to have the scan done as well.  I plan to ask during our 12 week appointment if we can go ahead and see if we can try to be one of the lucky ones picked.

  • I bought a combo package with my son and they did the gender reveal at 16 weeks and 4D pic at 28 weeks. The tech is licensed and it was at an OB office after their normal hours. They only look for gender so you don't have to worry about them scanning for important health concerns. My tech was patient and got great pics. I'm considering it again because my doc only does a u/s at 8 weeks and sends me out for the anatomy scan.

  • As we are "one and done," we've been more apt to consider some of these extras, and I don't know that I want to wait until May to find out the baby's sex at the 20 week appt. I've considered doing the combo that @maestra816 mentioned above, so I can do one at 16 weeks and another for the 4D later on.

Yep just don't want my dad at the dr appointment with me! Figure it woul be better in a more relaxed setting.
  • I will for sure be going to get an elective at 14+ weeks. The place comes highly recommended and I'm dying to know if my Lima bean is a boy or girl. It's only $50 for regular or $85 for 4D. I have my NT scan and hoping to be measuring perfectly so I can book!!!!!

  • We are planning on having an elective 3D/4D ultrasound done at an outside clinic around the 28-32 week mark. We want to have the 20 week ultrasound with our doctor before we have an elective ultrasound in case there are any concerns. We've already discussed it with our OB doctor and she says they are perfectly safe and she doesn't have a problem with her patients choosing elective ultrasounds, in fact, the clinic we chose requires your OB doctor to sign a paper stating that you are receiving prenatal care before they will do any elective ultrasounds. I would just make sure to do your research ahead of time and make sure the sonographers are certified and their equipment is up-to-date.
