Exciting news about a new community feature!

Coming soon: Social Groups!

What are social groups? This feature will allow members to create personalized groups, invite-only groups and private groups on The Bump.

There will be three types of groups users can create. Social groups can be 1) public; 2) invite only to post but visible to all; or 3) private - invite only to post and invite only to view.

One thing to note: Social groups will not be moderated by The Bump, but it is expected you follow the same community rules while in the groups. Private or not, we urge you not to share any personal information.

Look out for this new feature next week!

I don't get the purpose of #2, but #1 would be a way for members to create additional more specific group categories. I can see that being good in some ways, but I think there will be so many that it will become confusing to search through them all. I also agree that there will be drama.

BJ replied to someone (no idea where, but someone posted her reply in the TTGP thread) saying that they were reading them and they were thinking about adding mods. So at least it's something.

So TB will stop losing page views to FB groups. Great plan for their ad revenue, shitty plan for the members who will get caught up in ridiculous drama.

And I just don't think it will work well for that purpose either. One of the reasons people leave for FB groups is that it's convenient because they're on FB all day anyway. Such a bad idea on so many levels.

I consider October 2014 Moms as a "group". They b shouldn't give the option to break it up into cliques. I can see it now. Instead if weeding out the crazies, they'll form a private group. Aye yi yi..

This seems like an awful idea. Invite only? Awesome. So it'll totally be groups of specific people coming to together to gossip about others. Honestly, this kind of stuff is what will force some and (possibly me) off TB. It's too juvenile.

I know I started a thread but apparently BJ is reading the comments on these announcement threads and so by the off chance she reads these, I've got some thoughts stirring that maybe she will eventually address.

1) I noticed that a a common feeling on several boards is that the option to have a board that's visible but invitation only to participate seems weird, asking for drama, etc...

2) BJ has replied on a few different threads regarding the whole social groups issues and has defended the reasoning behind creating them but hasn't really given an answer to that one specifically.

3) One thing I like about the bump is that there are a lot of groups but not like some crazy amount of additional one off groups like baby center. that place gives me a headache when I see how many different groups are in that community.

4) Also, I kinda see the idea of being able to form groups that are NBR...(that's one of BJs reasons) but at the same time, isn't that why the knot/nest have communities as well. I mean, it's the bump! <- Baby central and all things related.

I don't mind the private group thing as much because people are gonna create them no matter what via PM, Facebook, etc. if not on the bump. It is what it is. But I'm just super baffled by that visible but private thing. I haven't gotten over it.
