Exciting news about a new community feature!

What are social groups? This feature will allow members to create personalized groups, invite-only groups and private groups on The Bump.

There will be three types of groups users can create. Social groups can be 1) public; 2) invite only to post but visible to all; or 3) private - invite only to post and invite only to view.

One thing to note: Social groups will not be moderated by The Bump, but it is expected you follow the same community rules while in the groups. Private or not, we urge you not to share any personal information.

Look out for this new feature next week!

@BumpJackie - I saw on TTGP that this is where TB wants BMBs that are 2+years to move to. When are you planning on starting to shut down the BMBs after 2 years post delivery? Do you put an announcement at the top of the board to let folks know you're closing the board, or does it just happen? Does it matter how active the board is?

For boards like this that actually have a good number of members still posting, it would be good to know so we could all migrate ahead of time and leave no one behind. TIA!

I was thinking the same thing. Then if people really wanted drama they could talk about a poster, and the poster is unable to respond to defend themselves. Option 2 is a terrible one. The other two I can understand.

I can see the bump crashing in one day with people creating social groups to prove a point. "Site crashes when one million sub groups are created, all with mysteriously profane titles"...

These bump ladies don't mess around.

Its practically already been done with Facebook, so there's that.

The format reminds me of cafe mom. I hate that site.

My other BMB just got shut down. We all recently moved to a private board, but nobody knew the original board was getting shut down.

I don't really see the big deal. It would be nice to keep all our crazy private anyway. We can still have all of us in a nice safe area away from lurky loo's. I always forget this is the internet and over share. This is a reminder of that.

@nesenotes - if we go private, then we won't be able to "talk" to Gina!! I can't imagine @jnoone would be happy with that. We can't leave Gina out!
