DH is a very nervous dad. He gets it from his mother, the world's most nervous grandmother. We have differing opinions on a lot of areas such as blankets or no blankets, but the biggest area we disagree on is how small to cut up DD's food. At 6 months we started with BLW, but at the first sign of gagging, DH insisted we switch to purees. Ok, fine, I felt a little more comfortable with this at daycare anyway, so I didn't have a problem with it. Then at 9 months our pediatrician said we could start giving cut up table food, and to gradually increase the size of the pieces to see what she could handle. DD did awesome with that, but fast forward 4 months later and DH still insists on cutting everything into teeny tiny little pieces that you practically need tweezers to pick up. Clementines are cut up so small that all the juice runs out and you're just left with the skin (membrane?). Muffins are turned into a pile of crumbs. About a month ago I started giving DD a half piece of toast in the morning that she could hold in her hands and bite. She has never had any trouble with this, but if she takes a bite my husband thinks is too large, he will literally fly across the room and pull it out of her mouth. My thought is that without letting her experiment, she won't learn what a manageable size is.
Just curious, what is everybody else doing at this point? What size pieces, or are you not cutting up food at all anymore?
Thanks, ladies!
Re: To cut up food or not to cut up food?
I still cut up most but I've noticed she's really good at pulling things apart herself so I really don't have to.
But I will still be sure to cut up choking hazards like meat, grapes, large pieces of cheese, ect.

DS hates having food cut up now. He likes to take bites from everything. This morning he was stealing bites from my bagel.
