Tylenol and ADHD

Did anyone see the news articles about Tylenol use during pregnancy and the increased risk for ADHD?
Any experience with this? The one painkiller they tell you is safe is not anymore, yikes!

  • My DH mentioned this article to me the other day, too. Personally, I thought it sounded like hog-wash. Maybe if you OD on it everyday, your kid might have some problems, but that's the same with anything else that is over-used.

  • Lots of women take Tylenol while pregnant and lots of children have ADHD. There's your correlation. One study doesn't tell researchers anything.

  • I saw last night's news report on this too. There are so few medications deemed safe for us that there's no way I could get through some days of this pregnancy without Tylenol. My back would hurt too much! I agree with previous posters that much more research needs done on this to prove if there's really a link.

  • My DH was reading this the other night and told me he didn't think I should take Tylenol anymore just to be safe. I told him this report can go to hell and if I want to take a F'ing Tylenol for a headache then I'm going to take it. You could say I disagree with this report!
  • All I can say is if it's true I might as well get my script for Ritalin right now. Tylenol pm is my savior.
  • My DH saw this and yelled at the tv "that is crazy! What are pregnant ladies supposed to take its already hard enough"! I love him :)

  • DH and I are both ADHD, so there's a good chance our LO will have ADHD. Not because I've taken Tylenol during this pregnancy, but because both her parents have ADHD.
  • Yeah, this is a load of garbage. They did make a point to say that it causes ADHD-like symptoms, which is different than having ADHD. Guess what? Kids have ADHD-like symptoms at some point their whole childhood! Give me a break.
  • I'm most likely giving my kid ADHD because I have it and I'm a giver. While the numbers sounded scary (30% increased risk!!1!) the overall incidence was 2.5% v. 3.4%. That's not even a percentage point. Even if this wasn't just a case of correlation, I wonder if it's even statistically significant?

  • the study also clearly states there is a difference between association, whcih they found, and causation. and they said if you have a fever, take tylenol because the fever is more dangerous. just don't OD on tylenol.

This study has had me all up in arms because Tylenol has been my only saving grace for my migraines during pregnancy. I usually get injections every 3 mos for them, but obviously can't, so Tylenol is all I've got. I wish they'd just stop talking about this already until they've got some mighty good proof and thorough studies done. Ugh!
They could, but then there'd be no juicy headlines!

  • Guize I just did an impromptu study and every single mom of a gay child drank water during pregnancy! I've cracked the code! The Gay is in water!!!
You think water is dangerous...  have you read about dihydrogen monoxide?  That shit will kill you if you try to breathe it in.
Man, that's not all, I heard dihydrogen monoxide has the power to eat through solid iron.  Also rocks.  AND!  It's in every home in the nation!  Run for your lives!  </mob inciting>

Wait, are you saying genetics and natural diet cause ADHD?  I knew those organic veggies looked suspicious.  ;)

We actually pay to have it piped in to our house. Some people might think that's dangerous but I think it's damn awesome.

Same here. I have severe adult ADD, as does my mother (whom also is bi-polar) two of my 3 sisters have ADHD, as well. I believe H has it as well but remains undiagnosed, he has it in his family though for sure. With DS1 I was afraid to take anything the entire pregnancy so I just stuck it out when I felt sick. Finally caved and started eating Tums non-stop for heartburn. It seems he clearly has the early symptoms for ADHD- it's usually genetic.

  • So I was born in 1970 and my brother was born in 1962. We were both ADHD since Tylenol was not really a number one selling drug until 1976  im sure my mother took asprin instead. So what happened to us? Are we mutants because that would be really cool ! ADHD is not new it's hereditary and now in days way over diagnosed.
