May 2014 Moms

pre-e

Was just diagnosed this morning... I'll be 29 weeks tomorrow.

Any other moms dealing with this? Everyone keeps telling me lots of fluids and rest and to keep my feet up... guessing I will have to quit my internship early so that adds more stress as I'm supposed to graduate the week before my due date... we're also moving this weekend :/

Just want my baby girl to be healthy!!

Re: pre-e

  • I have no experience with pre-e or advice... so sorry you have to go through it though! But yeah take it easy. I think there's a board for pregnancy complications? But I could be wrong. Hang in there mama!!

  • yeah, I'm headed over to the high risk pregnancy board and see what the moms there have to say... it's just so frustrating and stressful because I've had such a healthy pregnancy up until this point and the doctors kept telling me I was great and to keep doing whatever I was doing, and now this. I don't think there's anything you can do to prevent preeclampsia, but I need to stay away from google because it's just making me more stressed!!
  • I have to go back on Friday for more testing, and just being monitored at this point... my feet and ankles have terrible swelling every evening and I have mild headaches often, but nothing too crazy or that has really worried me that much. I had a feeling they were going to tell me about the pre-e this morning though because I know my bp was higher at my last appointment and I have noticed a lot more swelling. Hopefully with appointments twice a week and being aware that it's a concern will help keep it under control. She needs to cook longer!!
  • Gave the clean catch urine sample this morning so I should get my blood test results and protein results tomorrow... probably won't know more until Friday when I go back for more blood work. I can work with 39 weeks! Glad to hear you had a successful and healthy delivery!
  • well here's crossing my fingers and being patient for Friday!
  • I had pree with my first. I would encourage you to check out www.preeclampisa.org for more information. It can vary from being mild to deadly. It is not something to take lightly. With that said, I am a little surprised they diagnosed you without a 24 hour urine. The guidelines have changed for diagnosis in that they can dx without meeting the protein cut offs but you have to meet multiple other criteria and it is a lot more rare.

  • I was d/x at 36w3d after a 24 hr urine. I began induction (turned emerg C/S) that day. This time I had traces of protein in my urine at my 22 and 26 wk appt.

  • I had pre-e with DS and was just diagnosed again with it last Friday. The fact that they diagnosed you before doing a 24 hr urine test is also surprising to me. With that being said I am to take my blood pressure twice a day and if the top number is anywhere near 135 I have to call my ob, and 140+ I have to go to l&d. Drink lots of fluids, keep your feet up. And last time I swelled up like a balloon, hands, feet, legs, face, lips everything! So waiting for that to kick in. Also, the wonderful headaches/migraines from 1st trimester will come back, with the possibility of changes in your vision. Just keep an eye on it make notes of things that you notice being different, so you can discuss with your ob. Good luck! I know it's a pain!!
  • I was diagnosed at 37w3d and they started inducing me at 37w4d last time.

I'd recommend getting an at home blood pressure monitor so that you can identify immediately if there are any spikes in your BP.  If you have any vision changes, etc call your OB asap.

  • Thank you for the support! I will update after my appointment on Friday
  • Be careful. I delivered at 36 1/2 weeks (very healthy girl). My BP was 200/102 the night before induction. I moved at the end of my pregnancy, just sit back and let others do the work. PreE is nothing to mess with.
