MUST WATCH TOMORROW: Oprah Lifeclass on Single Moms

Just a PSA for everyone...

I used to watch all of Oprah's Lifeclasses a few years back and they made a huge difference in my life. I made it a point to take notes during each one and reflect back on them from time to time.

Anyway, got an email this morning that tomorrow's online one is on Single Moms. Wanted to share with you guys because I will surely be tuning in. If you can't watch during the day, it's a taping so it should air on OWN eventually. I don't have OWN but...whatevs. Here's the info:

Today really focused on the guilt, judgement, etc. we feel as single moms and changing the way we mother.

Vision: Create an experience of mothering that empowers us as individuals and our children.

Look at the blessing of mothering.

We feel LEFT with the children, like we're victimized...instead of blessed with the gift of these children. We're not victims. We haven't been victimized. We are women.

JUDGEMENT: Moms remarked that some of the friends they had they don't have anymore and that sometimes it feels like the friends worry they will "catch" the single mom disease if they associate with the single mom. Don't hold the judgement within yourself. Call a thing, a thing. If someone is passing judgement on you, call them out on it right then and there.

We question if we're doing it right.

You don't know you have a fool until you have a fool. (BD's)

Create a village/community with other single moms.

Take a day for yourself. Be silly. Be fun. You've done a good job thus far.

Call it Parenting Alone, not Single Parent.

Losing yourself. Who am I? Emmalynn's Mom vs Shannon. Before you had kids you were a woman. Don't forget you were a woman someone wanted to have a child with.

All guilt requires punishment. Stop punishing yourself with guilt.

You cannot give what you do not have. Take care of yourself.

Mom's of boys: Don't forget you are raising someone's husband, someone's father.

The mentality of "If I give EVERYTHING, I will make up for other parent's absence" is false.

Forgive yourself for judging yourself as less than.

If God will allow it, you must accept it.

Give your children a place of wholeness.

GUILT: Couldn't make it work. What if I had made different choices? Stayed longer? Are you guilty because you left or guilty because you stayed too long?

So far i think this is interesting. Especially the mom of boys part. I really feel like moms of boys weather single or not forget that sometimes.

My ex mil was living proof of this. My xh was 26 couldnt cook, do laundry, clean anything a normal functioning adult men should do.

I want to raise a son who a woman would be proud to marry and her kids be like him.

I also like the idea of not playing the victim. I feel like the women on this board are good at saying im not a victim it just wasnt right

I wasnt that nice. My best friend threw up all ovet my exes favorite dry clean only jacket when he got ger drunk.at the bar. I told him a couple days before i left him that id take it to the dry cleaners for.him. i didnt fuck him lol.

Is there a place we can access this video??..for being a sm of a boy and girl I plan to teach dd what she deserves and ds how he should treat a women but always include them both in the conversation so they see both sides. I also want ds not to be stepped on and taken for granted because I will raise him right ya know?
