I would suggest doing it about 2 months before your due date. That way you have time to buy whatever you have left to get after shower, plus you have some time to wash baby stuff, organize, decorate, etc.
I'll be just about 33 weeks... The date was chosen based on my schedule (I coach and have competitions almost every weekend from January - April) and what also worked for my mom, the hostess.
I'm having mine next week, at 27 wks, because we will have family from out d state here and that's when H family wanted to host it. My mother and aunt will host another one for me at 33wks. I did t want 2 showers, but since I had to really limit the guest list for the one that my H family is throwing, my mother and aunt decided to host another so the extended family and friends could come.
Most of my friends and family say that about 2 months before EDD is best. You never know if you're going to be put on bedrest or if baby might be a little early, etc. Also gives you time to organize your stuff after and see what else you need. But it really could be held at any time that works for everyone!
This.

The host of mine originally wanted to do it at 37 weeks, an hour and a half away from me and my hospital. I wasn't comfortable traveling that far that late in the pregnancy so I asked her if she'd mind bumping it up a bit - which she agreed to thankfully!
I honestly would rather her do it by like 32 or 33 weeks, but I'm a FTM so I really don't know what to expect regarding how comfortable I will be.
I haven't asked the hosts (my mom and sister) yet, but I'm assuming late April or early May is around the right time. It'll probably be easier if we do it a little earlier before it gets too hot (then we have the option to partially host outdoors), and since my family has a history of going into labor around 37-39 weeks, I don't want to push it too late JIC.
Mine is at 33 weeks. If there are any out-of-towners, you might want to ask the host to coordinate with them as well. My SIL is coming in from out of state and couldn't do 34 or 35 weeks, and I personally felt 36+ was too late for my own piece of mind.
I was 23 weeks at my family shower because it was about 6 hours away from me and my OB had already told me no travel after 24 weeks. The local one our friends are hosting will be at nearly 28 weeks, which seems to be the cutoff recommendation for twin showers.
We're having one at 31 weeks. The other hasn't been scheduled yet, but I am going to aim for around the same time. I don't want to be too uncomfortable or tired and you never know when LO will make a grand entrance.
Also, in case it affects anyone's planning, Easter is April 20.
My cousin is throwing me one at 26 weeks (air travel is involved so needed to be on the earlier side) and friends are throwing me one locally at 33 weeks.
@CAMag - funny because I was thinking the same thing. I checked this thread this morning to see if the OP had commented but I see that she still hasn't. Interesting... But it's nice to see when everyone will be having their showers.
@kimkaye - I just want to mention that when you pop on by to ask a question and then don't come back for days, it's pretty rude. If you start a thread, at least participate in it.

My baby shower for dd1 was 3 weeks after she was born. Of course I didn't have one with ds and since LO was dh's first we had a shower 4 weeks after she was born. With this one we are having a no gifts meet the baby BBQ about 3 weeks after he comes. We are going to have things for the kids to do it make it more of a backyard BBQ. I just find it easier to plan a thing and get extended family and friends together at one time to meet the baby. Then I won't have to worry about a constant stream of visitors.

I got to ask, @kimcaye, are you hosting your own?
I already regret asking...
I went to a shower last Saturday and the poor girl was days away from her due date...I'd say that's a little too late!!

I hope I make it.
32-36 weeks sounds preferable to me.

I wanted to give myself enough time to get stuff that I still needed /wanted after the shower.
